The City of Summit is seeking a full-time Assistant City Engineer. The responsibilities include but are not limited to development, design, construction, and execution of engineering/public works projects, from concept and specifications to inspections and project closeout.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for City infrastructure repair/replacement;
  • Drawing and drafting;
  • Quality plan conformance;
  • Site plan and survey reviews;
  • Public bid tabulations;
  • Filing;
  • Complex engineering computations;
  • Plan copies;
  • Permit processing;
  • Conducting traffic studies/counts;
  • Heavy communications with regulatory agencies, utilities, contractors, and public;
  • Represents City as needed at public and Council meetings.

    • Qualifications:

  • Detail-oriented, flexible, confidential, organized, and excellent communication skills;
  • Proactive personality with superior interpersonal and customer service skills;
  • Supervisory skills and ability to act in absence of City Engineer;
  • Highly motivated individual with proficiency in Microsoft Office and AutoCAD;
  • GIS fluency, multi-tasking and project/time management skills essential;
  • Civil engineering degree, NJ P.E. license, and valid driver’s license required;
  • 3–5 years of experience preferred.
