PURPOSE AND SCOPE

Functions as part of the dialysis health care team in providing safe and effective dialysis therapy for patients under the direct supervision of a licensed nurse in accordance with organization policies, procedures, and training and in compliance with regulations set forth by the corporation, state, and federal agencies. Responsible for the setup and operation of hemodialysis machines. Assist in the maintenance of a safe and clean working environment.

Supports the organization's commitment to the Quality Enhancement Program (QEP) and CQI activities, including those related to patient satisfaction, and actively participates in process improvement activities that enhance the likelihood that patients will achieve the organization Quality Enhancement Goals (QEP).

Clinic is Open Mon to Sat. Must be available between 5 am – 8:30 pm. 8, 10, and 12-hour rotating shifts. Competitive pay.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Patient Related Education: Assist other health care members in providing patient-specific, detailed education regarding adequacy measures where appropriate (Online Clearance Monitoring, Adequacy Monitoring Program, Urea Kinetic Modeling, disease process/access).
  • Treatment: Welcome assigned patients and inquire as to their wellbeing since their last treatment; evaluate vascular access for patency, perform vascular access cannulation, and administer heparin as delegated or allowed by state law; obtain pre- and post-treatment vital signs and weight; initiate dialysis treatment according to orders (QB, QD); monitor response to dialysis and intervene as prescribed; document pre/post dialysis evaluations and other treatment data;

    discontinue treatment and assess patient prior to venous access termination; obtain hemostasis and dressings; document discharge evaluation; calculate and enter dialysis machine programming (UF goal, treatment time, UF modeling); ensure safety alarms are enabled (NVL 160); record vital signs and treatment parameters; document all relevant information; report significant changes to the RN or supervisor; perform machine safety checks and report findings;

    intervene for unusual patient status and document response; monitor access pressures and document findings; collect and prepare laboratory specimens; clean spills; manage supplies to prevent wastage; monitor patients performing self-care under RN supervision.
  • Staff Related: Assist in training applicable direct patient care staff under the supervision of a nurse.
  • Education/Communication: Follow organization policies, maintain a safe and clean environment, disinfect equipment and area between treatments, perform pretreatment dialysis machine alarm testing (including PHT), initiate SDS system.
  • Record Keeping: Participate in CQI activities; enter treatment data promptly into the clinical application; review treatment sheets for completeness and nursing signatures; ensure omitted entries are completed.
  • Infection Control: Assist with infection control audits; support adherence to infection control practices; follow infection control policies; participate in infection control education for patients and families under the direction of the CM or designee as allowed by state law.
  • Transitional Care Unit (TCU): Follow newly admitted patients through their first 4 weeks of dialysis; coordinate transitional care; liaise with FKC staff to ensure care planning; educate on home dialysis and options; set and perform treatments on TCU machines; coordinate modality transition and assist with supply ordering and inventory.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS
  • Experience typical of a health care facility environment with potential exposure to infectious materials; reasonable accommodations available.
  • Requires travel between facilities; desk and computer work; interaction with patients, staff, and physicians.
  • Direct patient care with heavy lifting and ongoing standing; may require pushing/pulling up to 40 lbs and lifting up to 30 lbs on a frequent basis; two-person assist available for heavier items.
EDUCATION AND LICENSES
  • High School diploma or G.E.D. required.
  • CMS-approved state and/or national certification requirements as applicable; state licensure and training as required.
  • Demonstrated commitment to organization culture, values, and customer service standards.
EXPERIENCE AND REQUIRED SKILLS
  • Previous patient care experience in a hospital setting or related facility preferred.
  • Continued employment contingent on successful completion of the organization dialysis training program and CPR certification.

Compensation:
Hourly rate $18-$27 depending on location and qualifications. Benefits include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) with company match, paid time off, parental leave.
