Hiring Range: $26.48 - $29.61, with growth to $33.10

The City of Sumner is recruiting a dependable and detail-oriented Custodial Technician to join the Facilities team. We’re looking for someone who takes pride in their work and understands that clean, safe, and well-maintained facilities are essential to creating welcoming spaces for employees, residents, and visitors. We need a responsible and self-motivated team member who can work independently, follow established procedures, and use sound judgment to complete assignments efficiently and effectively. The ideal candidate is comfortable performing a variety of custodial and light maintenance duties, from vacuuming, mopping, and washing windows to cleaning restrooms, building surfaces, and collecting trash. Because assignments may vary, you’ll have the opportunity to work across different City facilities and respond to changing operational needs.

This position is a full-time, Fair Labor Standards Act non-exempt position. This is designated as a Safety Sensitive position. The typical work schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Alternative work schedules, including evenings and weekends, may be required based on operational needs. Remote work is not available for this position. Attendance at evening meetings or other off-duty events is not typically required but may occur occasionally based on operational needs.

The incumbent in this position is not a Civil Service employee.

Under the direction of the Facilities Field Supervisor, the Custodial Technician performs a variety of custodial and light maintenance duties to ensure City buildings and facilities are clean, safe, sanitary and well maintained. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to mopping, sweeping, vacuuming, washing windows, collecting trash, and cleaning building surfaces and restrooms. While actual duties of the Custodian will vary from time to time, Custodians may be assigned to perform work in any or all facilities.

Custodial work is performed independently in accordance with established procedures and standards. Assignments and priorities are typically communicated by the supervisor verbally, with written instructions provided as needed. Employees are expected to exercise sound judgment in completing assigned work while referring unusual situations to the supervisor.
