Building and Grounds Specialist

Responsibilities

• Perform routine custodial, housekeeping and/or grounds keeping duties to keep all assigned areas clean and safe.
• Clean assigned offices, lobby areas, storage, and work areas.
• Assist with moving or setting up furniture and chairs as needed.
• Replace fluorescent light bulbs, lubricate hardware systematically when needed.
• Make minor repairs and adjustments to equipment and furniture.
• Maintain sufficient inventory for the assigned building.
• Perform housekeeping duties for the assigned dormitory daily.
• Maintain grounds by performing grounds–keeping tasks to ensure grounds are safe and inviting.
• Mow lawns and rakes leaves.
• Remove trash and litter and keep grounds safe of debris.

• High school diploma or 10th‑grade equivalency plus one year of related work experience.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Experience in the proper and safe performance of custodial, housekeeping, and grounds‑keeping.
• Knowledge of safety practices relevant to the area of employment.
• Skill in the use of cleaning chemicals, grounds‑keeping tools and equipment.
• Ability to follow instructions, both orally and in writing.
• Ability to keep records.

This position requires average strength and stamina, normal range of physical motion, and the ability to work with mildly irritating chemicals involved in indoor and outdoor cleaning, sanitation, and grounds‑keeping duties. The incumbent will be required to follow appropriate safety guidelines in handling such chemicals and equipment.

Extended hours may be required as work dictates. Physical requirements include bending, stooping, climbing ladders, squatting, and lifting 40 pounds or more unassisted on a regular basis. The position may require working in adverse weather conditions and responding to emergencies as needed.
