Laundry Operator

The Lexington County Sheriff’s Department is seeking two dependable and detail-oriented Laundry Operators to join our Detention Center operations team. This position is essential to maintaining a sanitary and efficient environment by ensuring the proper laundering of clothing, bedding, and other textiles used by inmates and staff.

Hours:

1:00 PM – Midnight on a rotating schedule (includes evenings and weekends).

• Work environment includes exposure to heat, chemicals, noise, odors, and physical labor in a secured detention facility.

Due to the nature of this position within a secure detention facility, applicants must have a clean criminal record and will be required to successfully pass a pre-employment drug screening and polygraph examination as part of the hiring process.

• Collect, launder, and distribute clothing, bedding, towels, and related items used by inmates and staff.
• Maintain cleanliness and sanitation in the laundry room and throughout the facility.
• Follow proper procedures for handling and disposing of hazardous materials and chemicals.
• Conduct inspections for contraband and report safety, sanitation, or maintenance issues.
• Adhere to Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and Bloodborne Pathogens protocols.
• Maintain accurate inventory and ensure proper handling of laundry equipment and supplies.

• Ability to lift up to 40 pounds and perform physical duties including standing, walking, bending, and reaching.
• Must be detail-oriented, dependable, and capable of working independently or as part of a team.
• No previous experience required; on-the-job training will be provided.
