Job Title
Part‑Time Custodian (Events & Ground) – Sumter Civic Center. $10.25 per hour.
Position SummaryThe Part‑Time Custodian is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and event‑ready environment at the Sumter County Civic Center. This role supports facility operations by providing custodial services before, during, and after events, assisting with event setup and breakdown, and performing basic exterior upkeep of the facility grounds.
Examples of Work Performed- Clean and sanitize restrooms, event spaces, offices, hallways, and common areas
- Sweep, mop, vacuum, and maintain floors to ensure a clean and presentable environment
- Empty trash receptacles and dispose of waste properly during and after events
- Replenish supplies such as soap, paper towels, and toilet paper
- Assist with event setup and breakdown, including arranging tables, chairs, and equipment
- Open and close the Civic Center facility in support of scheduled events
- Provide custodial support during events to maintain cleanliness and respond to immediate needs
- Maintain exterior areas including cutting grass, edging, and weed control to ensure facility grounds are well‑kept
- Perform basic upkeep of entrances, walkways, and surrounding areas
- Report maintenance or repair needs to the Exhibition Maintenance Supervisor
- Follow all safety procedures and proper use of cleaning equipment and chemicals
- Assist with special cleaning or event‑related projects as assigned
- Perform other duties as required
- Knowledge of basic custodial and cleaning methods, materials, and equipment; ability to use cleaning tools such as mops, vacuums, and floor equipment
- Ability to perform light grounds maintenance including mowing, edging, and weed control
- Ability to follow instructions and work independently with minimal supervision
- Strong attention to detail and time‑management skills
- Ability to work in a fast‑paced, event‑driven environment
- Strong customer service skillsout and ability to interact professionally with staff and the public
- Ability to follow safety guidelines and properly handle cleaning chemicals and equipment
- High school diploma or GED preferred
- Previous custodial, janitorial, or grounds maintenance experience preferred, but not required
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and perform physical tasks for extended periods
- Work is performed both indoors and outdoors
- Exposure to cleaning chemicals, weather conditions, and varying temperatures
- Must be available to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, based on event schedules
