Paradise Valley Unified School District – Full‑time, 12 months, 8 hours/day. Grade 13, $15.44/hour, Non‑Interim Position,

The High School Groundskeeper supports the educational process by performing general grounds maintenance at Horizon High School, ensuring attractive and safe grounds, protecting against erosion, and maintaining areas for assemblies, events, and recreational activities.
Essential Functions- Attend unit meetings, in‑service training, and workshops for job‑relevant information.
- Clean landscaped areas, storm drains, fields, and litter to prevent flooding and hazards.
- Consult with athletic and administrative personnel to plan, prioritize, and schedule maintenance activities.
- Maintain grounds‑keeping equipment (mowers, loaders, trucks, weed trimmers, blowers, chain saws) in safe operating condition.
- Operate equipment to provide efficient and timely services.
- Plant or spread landscaping materials (plants, grass, bushes, trees, rocks, bark) to keep grounds attractive and protect against erosion.
- Prepare and maintain grounds and athletic fields (fertilizing, soil care, paint stripping, chalk marking) for safe assemblies and athletic events.
- Repair irrigation systems and components (valves, wiring, timers, switches).
- Request materials, supplies, equipment, and support personnel for timely completion.
- Respond to immediate safety or operational concerns (damage, vandalism, alarms).
- Transport tools, equipment, and supplies to ensure availability at job sites.
Perform other related duties as assigned to ensure the efficient functioning of the work unit.
Job Requirements– Minimum Qualifications Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
- Operate grounds‑maintenance equipment, including tractors, weed whips, mowers, hand and power tools.
- Apply safety practices at all times.
- Understand and apply algebra and/or geometry for troubleshooting measurements.
- Read, write, and understand written procedures, routine documents, and complex instructions.
- Schedule activities, collate data, and use job‑related equipment.
- Work flexibly with diverse groups and within time constraints.
- Communicate effectively; maintain rapport with students, staff, and community.
- Problem‑solve within prescribed guidelines and moderate equipment issues.
Work under limited supervision following standardized practices and methods; provide information and advice as needed; impact organizational services positively.
Work EnvironmentPhysical demands include significant lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and dexterity. Typical job composition: 10% sitting, 70% walking, 20% standing. Work occurs under temperature extremes and potential injury or illness risks.
Experience and EducationJob‑related experience preferred.
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Online Driver Training Certification, Driver's License, and Evidence of Insurability.

Valid Arizona DPS Level I IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card.
