Position Information:
The New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets is hiring for two permanent Trades Generalist, SG-12 to work in the Carpentry Shop at the New York State Fairgrounds. As a Trades Generalist, you may perform journey-level work in one trade, and skilled and semiskilled level work in a combination of other trades to assist in the repair and maintenance of facilities and equipment in support of State Fair operations.
The Fairgrounds are located at 581 State Fair Boulevard in Syracuse, New York, offering a comfortable work environment, complete with free parking.
These are permanent, non-competitive, CSEA-represented positions offering full-time hours, 40 hours per week, Monday-Friday.
The Trades Generalist position is in the CSEA Salary Grade (SG) 12. The starting salary of the CSEA SG-12 is $50,425/year.
The candidates appointed to these positions will be eligible to participate in the New York State Performance Evaluation Program. Through this program, employees receive yearly performance evaluations. Performance advances are payable to CSEA employees whose base annual salary is below the job rate for their current position and who were rated "Satisfactory" or its equivalent on their yearly performance evaluation. Performance advance payments are added to an employee's annual salary.
Over time, yearly performance advances may lead to the SG-12 job rate salary of $61,548/ year!

As a New York State employee, you could potentially qualify to participate in the Federal Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program (PSLF)! The PSLF Program forgives the remaining balance on your direct loans after you have made 120qualifying monthly payments under an accepted repayment plan and while working full-time for the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets or anothereligible employer.
Non-competitive:
Four years of full-time experience in a trade under a skilled tradesperson which would provide training equivalent to that given in a training, apprenticeship, or equivalent program; or an equivalent combination of experience and training gained by completion of technical courses in skilled trades at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services.
When required to operate motor vehicles, candidates must possess a valid New York State driver's license appropriate for the type of vehicle to be operated.
