Installation Technician, Emergency Crisis Mgmt/ Disaster Relief
Why It’s a Great Opportunity:
In this role with the Department of Emergency Management (DEM), you will work on projects related to specialty emergency vehicles such as motorcycles, boats, ATVs, SWAT, and covert vehicle builds. These projects will vary throughout the year and can include new equipment implementation designs for various vehicles, working with public safety vendors such as Whelen and Sirenet, understanding each new model year vehicle configurations, and deciding upon the correct public safety equipment packages.
Working in this role will ensure the equipment utilized by Public Safety customers to ensure the safety of the Pierce County communities.

How to be Successful in the Role:Emergency Management has a strong onboarding program to ensure employees receive department information, points of contact, and resources such as computers, phones, and other devices. In addition, the management team will work directly with supervisors to provide opportunities for information sharing and regular feedback. The employee will also be eligible to attend FEMA‑approved training courses. Your success will come from the timely installation of communications equipment, knowing your knowledge limits, and being collaborative with effective communication.

Throughout the onboarding process, you will meet with supervisors, teams, and the admin team regularly to discuss expectations, set goals, identify priorities, and gain familiarity with current policies, procedures, and strategic measures. CoreDaily Responsibilities:
- Install, maintain, and repair emergency lighting equipment, mobile antenna systems, siren amplifier systems, radio control heads, map lights, strobe lighting equipment, radio consoles, trunk mount transceivers, undercover lighting equipment, CB radios, scanners, flashing devices, and other specialized equipment.
- Perform preventive maintenance on safety equipment, two‑way radios, and antenna systems.
- Operate testing and measuring equipment, including voltmeters, ohmmeters, watt meters, current meters, and other light control systems.
- Assist with laying out and building various projects designed by a technical supervisor, including cable harness and warning light control systems.
- Maintain computerized and manual service records, logbooks, and inventory records.

DesiredQualifications:
- Additional education or experience may substitute for the recruiting requirements.
- One year of experience in installation, maintenance, and repair of public safety equipment.
- Possession of a valid driver’s license is required.
- Background check and, if required, a satisfactory county‑approved physical examination.
