Position: EVS Technician (Night Shift)

Job Summary

Ensure a quality environment for Kaiser Foundation Health Plan of Washington staff, patients, and visitors by performing low‑level maintenance, routine safety and security surveillance, and cleaning areas and surfaces using approved disinfectants, equipment, and supplies.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Clean patient, staff, and public areas using the appropriate cleaning solutions and the 7‑step cleaning procedure:
    • High dust all flat surfaces over 6 ft. with a high dusting tool or ladder as needed.
    • Empty all trash receptacles; wipe inside and outside with germicide solutions; reline receptacles and exchange sharps containers when required.
    • Damp wipe/spot clean all surfaces and furnishings under 6 ft.; spot‑wipe walls and partitions as needed.
    • Dry mop all floors using a dust mop frame and treated head, including under and behind furnishings.
    • Clean bathrooms, wiping all surfaces, shelves, sink, showers, and toilet.
    • Damp mop entire rooms, including under and behind furnishings.
    • Inspect the area to ensure all steps are completed and the area looks neat and clean.
  • Clean corridors and public areas using the 4‑step cleaning procedure:
    • Dry mop.
    • Damp mop.
    • Spray buff.
    • Dry mop again.
    Move furniture and equipment for cleaning, re‑arrangement, and meeting room set‑ups.
  • Safely operate electric and battery‑powered cleaning equipment such as vacuums, buffers, burnishes, auto‑scrubbers, and extractors. Transport trash and debris properly protected. Complete projects such as scrubbing/stripping, refinishing floors, bonnet buffing, extracting carpets, upholstery, wheelchairs, lights, vents, and radiators. Close and remove sharp containers when full.
  • Move clean and/or soiled linen carts to and from patient and other areas, properly protected. Perform discharge/transfer cleaning. Wear protective attire (goggles, gloves, gowns) for safety purposes. Contribute as a member of an Environmental Services Team.
  • Conduct routine surveillance of interior building spaces and take appropriate action to prevent violations of KFHPW safety and security policies. Lock doors, arm alarms as required. Sweep exterior sidewalks adjacent to entryways. Perform snow removal duties as needed.
  • Perform small maintenance tasks such as unplugging toilets and sinks, cleaning wheelchairs, lights, vents, radiators, and checking electrical outlets and nurse call stations. Adjust thermostats, perform drain treatment, and clear toilet aerators and drains.
  • Maintain knowledge of chemical usage and dilutions. Remove medical waste receptacles, label and store according to procedure. Thoroughly clean working equipment and store as recommended by the manufacturer. Stock all paper products and soap.
  • Show initiative in the thorough manner in which work is completed. Take care of situations when they arise. Understand and comply with Washington State Department of Health guidelines, OSHA Workplace Safety regulations, and KFHPW safety policies.
Additional Requirements
  • Communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • One (1) year of custodial experience in an outpatient setting.
  • High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED).
Location and Schedule

Primary location:
Washington, Tacoma, Tacoma Specialty Center.

Scheduled weekly hours: 40.

Shift: Night (Mon‑Fri).

Working hours:

11:00 PM – 07:30 AM.

Compensation

Pay range: $23.15 – $32.43 per hour. Kaiser Permanente strives to offer a market‑competitive total rewards package and is committed to pay equity and transparency. The posted pay range is based on possible base salaries for the role and does not reflect the full value of the total rewards package. Actual base pay determined at offer will be based on labor market data, internal alignment, and a candidate's years of relevant work experience, education, certifications, skills, and geographic location.
