Debris Staffing Cadre

Position Summary

Debris Staff - all levels. Full Time. Temporary. Must start immediately. Base pay $15-35/hr, overtime expected. Onsite locations determined by events. Staff will assist oversight operations in removal of debris from natural disasters. Applicants should be passionate about making a difference and supporting local, state, and federal jurisdictions in preparing for and recovering from disasters.

• Report to designated areas at assigned times.
• Attend safety and operational briefings.
• Work with contractors and crews on-site; report daily or as needed to assigned leadership/field supervisors.
• Monitor collection of disaster-generated debris from authorized areas and document the work.
• Ensure that only FEMA-eligible debris is removed, loaded, and hauled to the disposal site.
• Operate a smartphone application or handheld unit to record vital information.
• Ensure that debris loads are properly contained in the loading container.
• Record and report any damage resulting from debris removal operations.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• Ability to work outside for long hours in varying weather conditions.
• Pass a background check, as needed.
• Highly organized and detail-oriented.
• Active listener.
• Strong time management, oral, and written communication skills.
• Excellent communication and legible writing skills.

No supervisory responsibilities. Higher level roles will have lead/oversight responsibility.

6-7 days per week, up to 12 hours per day. Schedule may vary. Work on evenings and weekends may be required.

• Up to 25% travel.
• Willing to travel and deploy to client sites for extended periods.

• Mobility required on-site with clients.
• Driving/sitting/standing for hours.
• Lift up to 25 lbs. repetitively.

• On-site, varying weather conditions, possible adverse conditions, debris sites with moderate noise level.

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Experience ensuring only FEMA-eligible debris is removed, loaded, and hauled to disposal site.
• Work with contractors and crews on-site and report to leadership/field supervisors.
• Travel to client sites and access reliable transportation.
• Residency within commuting distance of the project area.
• Reliable vehicle with current valid car insurance and good driving record.
• Smartphone and ability to operate tablets or devices.

• Two or more years of debris monitoring/multiple storm experience.

• Must be 18 years of age or older.
• Eligibility to work in the United States without employer-sponsored visa.
• Pass company and client background and reference checks upon offer.
• Have a reliable vehicle.
• Cell phone / smartphone.
• Steel-toe work boots.
• Current valid driver’s license.
• Clean driving history.
• Proof of current vehicle insurance and registration.
• Pass a criminal background check.
