Storm Duty RequirementsTampa Electric and its sister companies provide critical services to our community during emergencies and disasters. Team members are required to participate in response and recovery activities related to emergencies/disasters to maintain service to our customers. Team members may be required to work in their normal job duties or other assigned activities. Proper compensation will be made in accordance with the company's rules and procedures.
Responding to storms will be considered a condition of employment.
Develops, implements, and maintains programs and work processes that support and improve the Fleet Services organization. Supports implementation of technical specifications for fleet vehicles and associated equipment. Assists in the administration of Fleet Services databases and prepares business studies and analytical reports to aid knowledgeable business decisions by company management.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities- Design specifications and modifications for standard and customized cars, trucks, trailers, and off‑road equipment to meet Tampa Electric's diverse operating requirements. Evaluate mechanical, structural, quality concerns and document for future specification adjustments. (30%)
- Process new vehicle/equipment technical specifications into the Fleet Vehicle Management System (VMS). Monitor, update, and report on ordered vehicles/equipment progress from receipt through in‑house customization to delivery. Validate finished products according to design specifications. (10%)
- Collaborate with management to research, evaluate, and execute special projects related to business operations, including budgetary and cost‑benefit analysis, and evaluation of garage productivity and business efficiencies. Present findings and collaborate with the Fleet Manager to apply them in business plans. (10%)
- Coordinate the initiation of the annual comprehensive replacement plan for vehicles and equipment. Manage specification adjustments based on current needs while maintaining standardization. Coordinate manufacturer in‑service training for new vehicles and equipment when applicable. (10%)
- Recommend vehicle operational or safety options and equipment technology advancements to enhance productivity and utilization. (5%)
- Monitor progress between bid award and receipt of vehicles and equipment. Attend pre‑paint inspections for heavy equipment with vendors and internal customers. Coordinate preparation of assets to meet company standards before service. Inspect all vehicles and equipment during delivery per required specifications. Identify and resolve safety items prior to service. (20%)
- Oversee asset disposal activities in accordance with established life‑cycle procedures, assess disposal options, and ensure efficient, condition‑based handling and timely disposal. (15%)
- Key Internal:
Interacts regularly with all levels of management, administrative, and operations personnel. Frequent communication with internal customers. - Key External:
Frequent communication with suppliers and contractors.
Education
Required:
High school diploma or GED.
Preferred:
College degree (preferred and will be considered in lieu of equivalent experience).
Experience
Required:
Minimum of 4 years of progressively more complex technical assignments with 3 years in a utility fleet environment.
- Required:
- Knowledge of Tampa Electric’s SAP accounting system, vehicle management system, fleet equipment maintenance and design functions.
- Proficiency in advanced Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, SAP, and Outlook.
- Strong analytical skills.
