The Custodian is responsible for performing cleaning functions in and around the campus building(s), including maintenance duties and fulfilling special requests as needed.

• Open campus building(s) by unlocking all entry doors, checking all spaces including restrooms, hallways, and entrances for maintenance problems, and cleaning assigned areas as directed.
• Maintain assigned work area clean by dusting, disinfecting, mopping, vacuuming, and sweeping floors; restock restrooms and dispose of trash.
• Use appropriate equipment to clean carpets, strip, scrub, buff, and wax floors following safety protocols.
• Move furniture, equipment, and materials to keep campus building(s) clean and safe.
• Perform minor repairs, check fire extinguishers, test emergency lighting, and order cleaning supplies.
• Report necessary repairs and safety concerns to facility management.
• Pull trash from offices and clean as requested.
• Maintain orderly janitorial closets.
• Respond to special requests for assistance from other departments; provide event setup and follow directives.
• Assist in securing campus building(s) by verifying all persons exited, locking doors, turning off lights, and activating security alarm.
• Other duties as assigned.

• High school degree or GED required.
• 6 months experience in the housekeeping industry; 2 years experience preferred in a post‑secondary institution.
• Knowledge of cleaning and minor maintenance procedures.
• Understanding of custodial equipment and supplies.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong interpersonal skills with diverse populations.
• Superior organization, prioritization, self‑motivation, and problem‑resolution skills.
• Ability to frequently lift up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to stand and walk for lengthy periods.

• Frequently lift up to 25 pounds; occasional heavy lifting up to 50 pounds.
• Occasional ladder climbs up to 15 feet.
• Exposure to heavy dust, dirt, chemicals, or paint fumes.
• Exposure to extreme heat, electric current, hazardous chemicals, or other hazards.
• Extended periods of sitting or standing without control over rest periods.
• Ability to bend, stoop, crawl; operate hedge trimmers, pressure washers, and leaf blowers.

Work environment requires regular talking/hearing, standing, walking, occasional lifting up to 50 pounds. Vision requirements include ability to adjust focus and close vision. Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities.
