THE ROLEThe Engineer reports to the Chief Operating Engineer and, like all qualified engineers, possesses diverse knowledge of electrical, plumbing, steam, gas, fire & safety, and HVAC refrigeration. As a working engineer, this position requires hands‑on involvement in the day‑to‑day operation, service, and repairs of hotel equipment, so if you prefer to “see the forest” and not willing to “plant the trees,” this is not a role for you.
The role actively develops trusting and transparent relationships with fellow associates of the hotel, fostering collaboration, humility, experience, and an open‑minded culture—no egos are allowed.
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience in building maintenance; previous experience as a hotel engineer preferred or comparable experience at an establishment such as an apartment complex or office building
- Flexible availability, 3–4 days per week, including weekends
- Basic knowledge of refrigeration systems, electricity, HVAC, and plumbing; certifications are a plus
- Working knowledge of the English language in reading, writing, and verbal communication
- Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods, bend, climb stairs, and lift up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to work independently and lead oneself to make it count
- Ability to work varied shifts, including days, nights, weekends, and holidays
Hotels done differently. It’s not just a slogan or catchphrase, it is who we are in everything we do. We believe in the power of People, Place, and Character—ensuring our properties are places where individuals are valued and celebrated as a tribute to the neighborhoods and communities in which we operate, elevating our associates’ pride in who they are, where they live, and who we serve.
Located in the heart of historic Ybor, a trolley ride away from downtown Tampa, Hotel Hayais is a hub of activity. Blending Cuban, Italian, and Spanish influences, the property features 178 guest rooms, over 7,000 square feet of banquet space, a world‑class restaurant, airy café, and lush courtyard with a pool.
Hotel Haya is managed by Aparium Hotel Group, founded in 2011. Since its founding, Aparium has grown into a new kind of hotel brand that ventures off the beaten path, both geographically and philosophically. It is a sophisticated brand known for its singular ability to combine the business acumen of large hospitality companies with the charm of boutique hotels, bringing the disparate forces together in bustling, smaller markets.
