Job Description

Summary: The Crew Leader, Custodian will perform daily cleaning, minor maintenance, yard duties, and assigned tasks in order to provide a safe and healthy learning environment in all school district facilities.

Supervisory Expectations

Manage assigned clerical staff and subordinate professional personnel in one or more sections of the department. Take responsibility for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of assigned teams. Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the district’s policies and applicable state and federal laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees;

addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Responsibilities
  • Sweep, mop, scrub, wax, and burnish floors; vacuum and shampoo carpets as applicable; clean, sanitize, and stock restrooms; clean and dust all horizontal and vertical surfaces as assigned; remove and dispose of waste products daily; maintain clean custodial closets.
  • Perform minor non-cleaning maintenance tasks of facility (e.g., change light bulbs, change toilet seats, unclog toilets, change ceiling tiles, touch up paint, secure windows, deliver supplies, set up for facility activities, meetings, or conferences, assemble and move furniture, etc.).
  • Follow a lawn and facility maintenance program to include, but not limited to: mowing (pushing and/or riding), weeding, weed‑eating, edging, trimming, fertilizing, minor plant replacement, mulching, blowing off sidewalks/curbs, watering, pressure washing, and graffiti removal, as appropriate.
  • Open or close and secure facility; include gates, doors, windows, and alarm systems. Turn on and off all lights making sure that grounds and facility are free of debris and hazards. Respond to emergencies by securing the perimeter.
  • Perform work duties independently and/or as part of a custodial crew, work cooperatively in group situations, exhibit tact and consideration, display a positive outlook and pleasant manner, offer assistance and support to co‑workers, and work actively to resolve conflicts.
  • Supervise assigned personnel, monitor staff performance, and make immediate improvements.
  • Prepare all required reports.
  • Perform basic computer skills.
  • Perform duties and responsibilities of the head custodian in the event of absence, vacancy, or as directed.
  • Possess basic comprehensive skills of the working English language.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned.
