Maintenance Technician

The Maintenance Technician performs various tasks that contribute to the overall maintenance and upkeep of all agency programs and their adjacent grounds and provides support to the Director of Plant Operations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist and provide back up to the Director of Plant Operations in ensuring that each and every building is operating at maximum efficiency and is safe and secure for employees, volunteers, clients, and visitors
- Perform lawn maintenance as required
- Strip and wax all floors in all agency programs as directed
- Use a broad spectrum of skills covering such trades as carpentry, plumbing, roofing, air conditioning, electrical, painting in day-to-day activities
- Undertake special maintenance projects in all agency programs as directed
- Help keep the Center of Hope's client rooms in good order by repainting, repairing and/or readying rooms for new admissions while seeing to other maintenance issues in rooms of existing clients
Other Responsibilities:
- Comply with all applicable training requirements
- Comply with all company safety, personnel and operational policies and procedures
- Comply with work schedule to ensure effective operations of Agency programs
- Contributes positively as a member of a productive and cooperative team
- Performs other duties as necessary to fulfill the St. Vincent de Paul CARES Mission
Required
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Able to speak, write and understand English
- Possess basic computer skills
- Must be sensitive to and respect cultural diversity among clients, staff and volunteers and able to work with diverse racial, ethnic and economic groups
- Flexible work schedule including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays
- Ability to set appropriate limits, work under deadlines, and multi-task
- Ability to organize, prioritize, self-motivate, and deliver results
- Excellent communication and listening skills
- Possess strong work ethics
- Successfully pass Level II criminal background screening
- Subject to random drug screenings
- Must possess valid Florida driver's
- Must have reliable transportation
- Participate in Agency Performance Quality Improvement (PQI) program and Accreditation/ Reaccreditation process

Additional
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Over 5 years of experience and training in all areas of general maintenance
- Able to work independently
- Have experience working with service venders; able to formulate a scope of work and elicit bids for service.
- Ability to operate power equipment
- Ability to perform calculations and measurements as required for carpentry work
Education and Experience:
- This position requires a high school diploma or GED certificate
- At least 3-years of experience in one or more of the skilled labor trades

These physical demands are representative of the physical requirements necessary for an employee to perform the essential functions of the job successfully. Working in an office/site requires prolonged sitting at the computer workstation; standing, bending, reaching, lifting up to 40lbs. and some driving.
Requires manual dexterity sufficient to operate standard office machines such as computers, fax machines, calculators, telephones, and other office equipment. It is also required to regularly sit, speak, and listen, the employee is also required to walk, use hands and fingers to type, operate equipment, and maintain records and notes. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
