Description Derecktor is seeking a skilled and experienced Maintenance Manager to oversee the maintenance, repair, safe operation, and reliability of equipment and facilities at our Fort Pierce, Florida shipyard. This is a hands-on working manager position responsible for ensuring shipyard equipment, buildings, docks, utilities, grounds, and other facility assets are properly maintained, safe, and available to support daily operations.

The Maintenance Manager is responsible for planning and coordinating preventive maintenance programs, supervising maintenance personnel, overseeing equipment operations, administering the Fort Pierce safety program, and ensuring compliance with company policies and applicable regulatory requirements. In addition to managing the department, this position is expected to actively perform maintenance and repair work, troubleshoot equipment and facility issues, operate heavy equipment, and work alongside the maintenance team as operational needs require.

This position plays a key role in maximizing equipment uptime, minimizing downtime, protecting company assets, and maintaining a safe, efficient, and well-maintained shipyard.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

These shall include, but not necessarily be limited to, the following:

Perform and oversee the maintenance, inspection, troubleshooting, repair, and preventive maintenance of all shipyard equipment, buildings, docks, utilities, grounds, and other facility assets.

Lead by example by actively performing maintenance and repair work while supervising the maintenance team.

Develop, coordinate, and manage preventive maintenance schedules to maximize equipment reliability, minimize downtime, and support operational needs.

Operate cranes, travel lifts, forklifts, backhoes, hoists, and other heavy equipment, and train employees on their safe operation and proper maintenance.

Troubleshoot equipment and facility issues, diagnose problems, and perform or coordinate timely repairs.

Perform general equipment repairs, facility maintenance, and infrastructure repairs as necessary to support daily shipyard operations.

Coordinate and supervise maintenance personnel, contractors, and vendors performing equipment and facility maintenance, repairs, and improvement projects.

Obtain quotes, schedule vendors, and oversee outside contractors performing maintenance and repair work.

Conduct routine inspections of equipment, facilities, and work areas to identify maintenance needs, unsafe conditions, and opportunities for improvement.

Maintain accurate inventories of equipment, maintenance records, inspection reports, warranties, and other required documentation.

Train, coach, and evaluate employees on the safe operation, inspection, maintenance, and proper care of company equipment.

Ensure equipment operators maintain required certifications and that equipment inspections and preventive maintenance are completed and properly documented.

Administer the Fort Pierce safety program by maintaining Safety Data Sheets (SDS), the Hazard Communication Program, safety records, training documentation, and regulatory compliance.

Conduct routine safety inspections, identify hazards, coordinate corrective actions, and promote compliance with OSHA regulations and company safety policies.

Coordinate employee safety training, including equipment operation, hazard communication, personal protective equipment (PPE), lockout/tagout, fall protection, respiratory protection, and other required training.

Coordinate inspections, testing, and maintenance of safety equipment, including fire extinguishers, eyewash stations, first aid supplies, and other emergency equipment.

Assist with workplace incident investigations, recommend corrective actions, and ensure follow-up activities are completed.

Serve as the primary point of contact for OSHA inspections, regulatory agencies, and safety-related vendors at the Fort Pierce facility.

Assist in preparing and managing the maintenance budget while identifying opportunities to improve efficiency, reduce operating costs, and extend equipment life.

Communicate maintenance priorities, equipment status, facility conditions, project updates, and safety concerns to the Operations Manager.

Promote a culture of safety, accountability, teamwork, professionalism, and continuous improvement.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Strong knowledge of heavy equipment maintenance and operation, including cranes, travel lifts, forklifts, backhoes, hoists, trailers, and other industrial equipment.

Strong knowledge of facility maintenance, building systems, utilities, docks, piers, and general repair practices.

Working knowledge of OSHA regulations and industrial safety requirements, including Hazard Communication, lockout/tagout, respiratory protection, fall protection, and personal protective equipment.

Knowledge of crane rigging, safe lifting practices, and heavy equipment operation.
