Perform a wide variety of mechanical, pneumatic, and basic electrical maintenance activities on equipment, ensuring safe operations while meeting production goals and quality standards. Key responsibilities include sourcing obsolescent parts, documenting maintenance activities, performing preventive maintenance, installing and validating equipment, and supporting Process, QA, and Facilities teams. The role also serves as a shift “go‑to” person, delegating tasks, coordinating between managers and supervisors, and ensuring smooth operational flow.
EssentialDuties And Responsibilities
- Identify problems by reading schematics/prints and execute necessary repairs on equipment or systems.
- Troubleshoot and repair ancillary equipment such as blow‑overs, bulb pullers, and heaters.
- Lead workers in electrical, electronic, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic maintenance and repair tasks.
- Assist workers in diagnosing and resolving malfunctions.
- Manage equipment safety and preventative maintenance programs in accordance with West and OSHA requirements.
- Oversee the preventive maintenance program and spare‑parts inventory to maximize efficiency and minimize downtime.
- Study production schedules, estimate hourly work requirements, and discuss workload and priorities with supervision.
- Interpret specifications, blueprints, and job orders and assign duties accordingly.
- Recommend measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, and product quality.
- Propose changes in working conditions and equipment use to increase shop efficiency.
- Analyze and resolve work problems, assisting workers as needed.
- Contact manufacturers for diagnostic information and part acquisition.
- Manage outside contractors, including scheduling, training, contracts, insurance certificates, and follow‑up.
- Initiate and encourage plans to motivate workers to meet work goals.
- Maintain time and production records.
- Coordinate with other supervisors to align departmental activities.
- Provide technical support and training for all manufacturing equipment.
- Write procedures for employees on various jobs and equipment, and train and record as necessary.
- Contribute to the development and maintenance of a press calibration program.
- Mentor team members in skill development.
- Oversee the overall operation, maintenance, repair, construction, and property management of buildings and grounds, including plumbing, electrical, HVAC, irrigation systems, and landscaping.
- Participate in installation and training on new equipment or building installations.
- Monitor building support systems’ conditions, capacities, and efficiencies, reviewing needs with the Manufacturing Engineering Manager.
- Observe work performed by maintenance, engineers, and contractors to ensure quality, timelines, and maintenance goals are met.
- Comprehend electrical wiring diagrams, pneumatic drawings, and other facilities technical information.
- Ensure compliance with GMP, QSR/ISO, FDA, OSHA, and all regulatory requirements per company policy.
- Provide technical support to all shifts of equipment and building maintenance personnel.
- Actively participate and comply with all West HSE programs and regulations.
- Maintain a neat and orderly work environment in accordance with the West 6S program.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- High School Diploma with Electrical or Mechanical discipline (required).
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical or Mechanical discipline (preferred).
- Minimum 5 years of automation background, including diagnosing and maintaining injection molding and blow‑molding machines; technical management experience is a plus.
- 2–3 years of leadership experience (required).
