Job Description:

Facilities Management, Zero Waste Program, seeks a Materials Handler Lead to perform daily recycling route collections, ensure timely completion of special requests, and perform yard maintenance and vehicle inspections/upkeep. The Material Handler Lead is expected to provide guidance, information, and instruction to the team of Material Handlers. Under limited direct supervision, respond to inquiries across all areas of the university regarding proper disposal of recyclables in efforts to reduce, reuse and recycle materials supporting the overall zero waste goals of ASU.Essential

Duties Manage completion of daily waste and recycling routes and special requests.

Coordinate solid waste hauling services with ASU’s contracted partner.

Oversee maintenance at all solid waste hauling locations on ASU campuses.

Implement waste and recycling programs on all ASU campuses.

Provide exceptional customer service when interacting with students, staff and faculty.

Drive, load, and unload 15-foot stake-bed truck and cargo vans.

Operate material handling equipment such as forklifts, pallet jacks, hand trucks or dollies to move bins and recyclable materials.

Operate solid waste compactors and other hydraulic machines.

Work outdoors lifting, standing, bending, climbing, and kneeling for extended periods of time.

Use work order systems (TMA) in response to maintenance requests.

Communicate to perform the essential functions of the job.

SCHEDULE:

Monday – Friday; 7:00AM - 3:30

PMSalary Range:$20.74 to $21.50. ASU offers a comprehensive benefits package with the State of Arizona This position is located at ASU’s Tempe campus but will require working from other campuses depending on operational needs.

Desired Qualifications Experience in:recycling/solid waste collection programs (0-1 years) facilities maintenance/grounds maintenance customer service using organizational skills working independently and with a team working with Microsoft Excel, Word, Publisher and Outlook Knowledge of:equipment such as forklifts, pallet jacks, hand trucks or dollies solid waste compactors and other hydraulic machines

Evidence of effective communication skills

Working Environment Work activities regularly require exposure to external environmental conditions including extreme heat, cold, dust, wind, insects, flora and fauna indigenous to a desert climate.

Extended periods of walking, stooping, bending, reaching, lifting and pushing objects of varying weights up to 70 pounds.

Drive university vehicle/cart.
