Building Service Assistant - Ames AgResearch and Education Center - UTIA

Overview

This position provides comprehensive cleaning services to the headquarters building, four lodging accommodations, the Ames Manor House, and other outlying buildings as needed. Facilities include a large public meeting space with a commercial kitchen and a dormitory-style bunk house. The role requires flexible hours to respond to cleaning needs, including some before- or after-business hours. The position may involve coordinating with center staff to identify problems such as leaks or building damages and may include ordering cleaning supplies and coordinating with outside vendors for special cleaning requirements (e.g., window washing or floor waxing).

• Dusting, mopping, sweeping, damp wiping, and polishing to a high standard, especially in bathrooms, meeting spaces, break rooms, and hallways
• Clean, service, and restock restrooms
• Clean windows, glass partitions or mirrors
• Dust and polish furniture, fixtures and walls
• Empty trash and replace liners
• Vacuum rugs and carpeted areas; perform spot or steam cleaning as needed
• Periodic waxing and buffing of designated floors
• Notify managers concerning the need for major repairs or additions to building operating systems
• Periodic window washing of the headquarters building and other high-profile windows
• Clean air vents or other areas prone to dust collection
• Maintain security of premises by ensuring doors and entry points are locked after business hours
• Request supplies or equipment needed for cleaning duties
• Set up, arrange, or remove decorations, trash, recycled items, tables, chairs, ladders for special events
• Other cleaning assignments as assigned or approved by the Director
• Ensure adequate inventory of cleaning supplies on hand
• Suggest needs and best practices for maintaining a healthy, clean working environment

• Required Qualifications
• Education:
  
  High School diploma or GED
• Experience:
  
  Two years of experience providing cleaning services
• Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
  Extensive knowledge about cleaning practices used in public or commercial facilities; ability to prioritize assignments based on critical needs and to work with others to schedule cleaning services with minimal disruption
• Preferred Qualifications
• Experience:
  
  Three or more years of experience providing cleaning services, especially in public or business facilities
• Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
  Knowledge of cleaning, stripping and waxing of floors
