School Facilities Technician: Repairs, Grounds & Safety

Tennessee public school maintenance workers for grades K-8 are responsible for ensuring school buildings and grounds are safe, clean, and fully operational for students and staff. They perform a wide range of tasks, from routine cleaning to complex mechanical repairs.

• Building Repairs

  Perform minor electrical, plumbing, and HVAC repairs, such as fixing leaks, replacing light bulbs, and clearing clogged drains.
• Grounds Upkeep

  Maintain outdoor areas by mowing lawns, trimming trees, and removing debris to ensure safe play areas.
• Preventative Maintenance
  :
  Conduct regular inspections of facility systems-like fire alarms and heating units-to identify and fix issues before they become emergencies.
• Facility Setup

  Assemble furniture, install classroom equipment (e.g., ceiling tiles or whiteboards), and set up spaces for school events or meetings.
• Custodial Support

  Assist with cleaning tasks, including floor maintenance, dusting, and trash removal to uphold health standards.

• Education
