Measurement Technician

Location: West Texas, 338 RM 652 East, Orla, TX 79770, USA.

The Measurement Technician is responsible for the installation, commissioning, inspection, calibration, troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of gas measurement and gas quality equipment to ensure accurate measurement, reliable operation, regulatory compliance, and safe operations. The scope, complexity, and level of independence increase with progression from Level I through Level III.

Core Duties and Responsibilities (All Levels)
  • Install, commission, inspect, troubleshoot, repair, calibrate, and maintain gas measurement equipment including dry flow recorders, Electronic Flow Meters (EFMs), Ultrasonic Meters (USMs), samplers, orifice plates, and meter tubes.
  • Install, commission, inspect, troubleshoot, repair, calibrate, and maintain gas quality equipment including gas chromatographs, O2 analyzers, H2S analyzers, H2O analyzers, and composite samplers.
  • Ensure all measurement and related equipment operates at peak efficiency and in accordance with company standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Perform spot sampling and witness custody transfer meters as required.
  • Prepare accurate reports, records, and documentation of work performed.
  • Actively support Environmental, Health, and Safety programs by following safe work practices, applicable regulations, and company policies.
  • Work independently or as part of a team, depending on assigned tasks and experience level.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Level-Specific Scope and Expectations Measurement Technician I (Entry Level)
  • Performs assigned tasks under close supervision.
  • Focuses on learning measurement systems, tools, procedures, and safety requirements.
  • Assists with installation, calibration, maintenance, and troubleshooting activities.
  • Demonstrates basic measurement knowledge and develops problem‑solving skills.
  • Uses basic computer systems and tools for data entry and reporting.
  • Typical

    Experience:

    • High school diploma or equivalent.
    • Approximately 1 year of industry‑related measurement, instrumentation, or electrical experience.
Measurement Technician II (Intermediate Level)
  • Performs work with moderate supervision and increasing independence.
  • Independently installs, calibrates, maintains, and troubleshoots measurement and gas quality equipment.
  • Downloads, reviews, and analyzes measurement data to ensure accuracy and identify issues.
  • Demonstrates intermediate measurement knowledge and applies best practices consistently.
  • Participates in ongoing training related to new technologies, systems, and regulatory updates.
  • Typical

    Experience:

    • High school diploma or equivalent.
    • Approximately 3 or more years of industry‑related measurement, instrumentation, or electrical experience.
Measurement Technician III (Senior Level)
  • Performs work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Serves as a technical resource and subject matter expert for measurement systems.
  • Conducts preventative maintenance programs to minimize downtime and extend equipment life.
  • Assists with training and mentoring junior technicians.
  • Collaborates with operations, engineering, and other stakeholders to optimize measurement performance.
  • Participates in audits, inspections, variance investigations, and compliance reviews.
  • Supports process improvements, documentation updates, and maintenance strategy development.

    Experience:

    • High school diploma or equivalent.
    • Approximately 5 or more years of industry‑related measurement, instrumentation, or electrical experience.
Required

Skills and Abilities

(Progressive by Level)
  • Knowledge of gas measurement principles and equipment.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues.
  • Basic to advanced math skills, depending on level.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical documents and procedures.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and documentation skills.
  • Ability to use computers, laptops, and relevant software systems.
  • Familiarity with applicable regulations and standards including EPA, DOT, RRC, OSHA, NEC, AGA, API, and GPA.
  • Ability to work safely in hazardous environments, adverse weather, confined spaces, and perform physical labor including lifting.
Certifications

None required.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

This position may require travel to remote field locations, exposure to flammable materials, and compliance with strict safety protocols. The role involves rigorous physical activity, including climbing, lifting, bending, and working in varying environmental conditions.
