Responsibilities
  • Perform highly complex custodial work, coordinating cleaning, sanitizing, and housekeeping services in a clinical setting.
  • Conduct inspections of buildings and equipment, ensuring compliance with safety and infection control standards.
  • Order, restock, and maintain custodial supplies and equipment, including managing inventories and records.
  • Assist the Custodian Manager in implementing the overall hospital safety and infection control program.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, including participation in disaster response, recovery, or Continuity of Operations (COOP) activation when required.
  • Work under limited supervision, exercising initiative and independent judgment.
  • Respond to alternate shift pattern assignments and/or location changes as needed.
  • Possibility of additional pay for work performed on evenings, nights, weekends, or at maximum‑security locations.
Essential Job Functions
  • Attend work regularly and may be required to work a specific or rotating shift schedule, extended hours, and overtime in accordance with agency leave policy.
  • Maintain cleaning supplies, chemicals, and equipment; keep detailed records of usage and perform minor repairs on building and equipment.
  • Coordinate and execute the cleaning, dusting, and disinfecting of restrooms, office surfaces, treatment areas, patient bedrooms, and other hospital areas.
  • Ensure all waste and trash are collected and disposed of regularly.
  • Verify patient units meet or exceed minimum standards for cleanliness, health, safety, and infection control; conduct inspections and ensure follow‑up actions.
  • Assist in implementing infection control procedures and maintain safety protocols.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned, including disaster response and COOP participation.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of cleaning techniques and procedures (dusting, sweeping, mopping).
  • Knowledge of floor stripping and waxing.
  • Knowledge of restroom and shower stall cleaning and disinfection.
  • Knowledge of inventory control principles and methods.
  • Skills in using custodial materials, chemicals, and equipment.
  • Skills in using and maintaining building maintenance tools.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to stay on task and complete work in a timely manner.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs.
  • Ability to stand/walk on hard floors for extended periods.
  • Ability to work harmoniously and productively with co‑workers and patients.
  • Ability to work irregular hours.
Initial Screening Criteria
  • One year of experience in custodial/housekeeping in a nursing home, hospital, residential facility, hotel, or similar environment.
