GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

Under the direction of the Complex Maintenance Supervisor, this position performs complex (journey-level) building maintenance and construction work. Responsibilities include daily operation and maintenance of the Davis Mountains State Park-Indian Lodge Complex, preventive maintenance (cleaning/inspecting) and repairs to facilities, buildings, equipment, vehicles, and grounds. Operates all types of equipment such as trucks, tractors, mowers and power tools. Provides visitor information and assistance.

Performs resource management tasks as directed by park management and regional natural resource coordinators. Participates in safety program and assists in safety inspections of facilities and equipment. Works under general supervision with moderate latitude for use of initiative and independent judgment. Performs additional duties as assigned. Complies with all Agency, Division and Branch rules, regulations and procedures.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

  • Graduation from High School or GED.

Experience:

  • Three years facility, equipment or grounds maintenance experience.

Licensure:

  • Must possess a valid State driver’s license.
ACCEPTABLE SUBSTITUTIONS:

Experience:

  • Thirty semester hours from an accredited college or university may substitute for one year of the required experience, with a maximum substitution of one year.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience:

  • General maintenance experience in areas such as repairing buildings, equipment, plumbing or electrical systems.
  • Grounds maintenance experience in areas such as operating lawn mowers, tractors, trucks and power or hand tools.
  • Experience working with the public.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge:

  • Basic plumbing, carpentry, electrical, masonry, janitorial, mechanical and grounds maintenance and repair tasks.
  • Building and facility repair techniques.
  • General maintenance techniques.
  • Basic mathematics.

Skills:

  • MS Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Effective verbal and written communication.
  • Use of hand and power tools, mowers, trimmers, chain saws, tractors, vehicles, generators and other mechanical equipment.
  • Minor repairs to facilities, equipment and vehicles.
  • Quality customer service in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Establishing and maintaining effective work relationships with co-workers and work-related contacts.

Abilities:

  • Make sound judgments and work independently with little or no supervision.
  • Work effectively with the public and co-workers.
  • Work as a member of a team.
  • Perform manual labor including lifting supplies and materials up to 50 lbs.
  • Conduct work activities in accordance with TPWD safety program.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
  • Work in a public park-hotel complex with overnight and day use.
  • Work 40 hours per week with various schedules, including times other than 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and days off other than Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays.
  • Work overtime as necessary.
  • Respond to emergencies and on-call situations.
  • Perform work outdoors, occasionally in adverse weather conditions.
  • Perform manual labor including lifting supplies and materials up to 50 lbs.
  • Possible operation of a State vehicle.
  • Travel 5% with possible overnight stays.
  • Conform to TPWD dress and grooming standards, work rules and safety procedures.
  • Non-smoking environment in State buildings and vehicles.
