Position Overview

Floor Care Technician – responsible for maintaining a clean and safe environment through floor care techniques.

Responsibilities
  • Clean and care for a variety of floor surfaces – tile, vinyl, carpet, and concrete – using the right methods for each, including sweeping, mopping, and scheduled deep cleaning.
  • Operate floor care machines such as buffers, auto‑scrubbers, carpet extractors, burnishers, and vacuums for daily and project‑based tasks.
  • Perform advanced floor care services: stripping old wax or finish, applying new coatings, buffing for shine, and deep‑cleaning carpets with hot water extraction or bonnet methods.
  • Follow safety guidelines when working with cleaning chemicals and equipment, and always wear proper personal protective gear (PPE).
  • Use all equipment safely and keep it cleaned, stored, and in good working order.
  • Follow OSHA and facility safety standards to keep yourself and others safe.
  • Work independently or with a team to complete daily floor care duties and larger cleaning projects.
  • Communicate with supervisors about equipment issues, supply needs, or floor damage requiring attention.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and professional space by keeping floors free of spills, dirt, and slip hazards.
Day in the Life
  • Start the shift by reviewing the schedule and gathering supplies and equipment.
  • Walk through assigned areas to check floor conditions and plan work.
  • Sweep, mop, or vacuum floors to prep for deeper cleaning.
  • Use machines such as buffers, scrubbers, and extractors to clean and polish floors.
  • Apply strip and wax or deep‑clean carpets, depending on the surface and schedule.
  • Monitor equipment performance and clean or refill machines as needed.
  • Stay alert for spills, hazards, or damage and act to fix or report them.
  • Wrap up by cleaning the equipment, storing supplies, and logging completed work.
Qualifications
  • Minimum of 1 to 2 years of hands‑on experience as a commercial floor‑care technician, janitor, or similar role.
  • Experience using floor care machines such as buffers, auto‑scrubbers, burnishers, and carpet extractors.
  • Knowledge of floor types (tile, vinyl, carpet, concrete) and how to clean and maintain each properly.
  • Valid RealID and ability to obtain and maintain government base access.

Physical & Environmental Demands
  • Stand and walk 8–10 hours per shift, often on hard surfaces.
  • Use hands and arms for repetitive tasks such as mopping and scrubbing.
  • Lift, push, or carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Bend, kneel, crouch, and reach to clean under furniture or along baseboards.
  • Operate heavy‑duty equipment such as buffers, burnishers, and carpet extractors.
  • Maintain good vision and hearing to safely use equipment and communicate with team members.
  • Wear PPE such as gloves, goggles, or masks when needed.
  • Work indoors in high‑traffic areas like hallways, lobbies, or dining spaces.
  • Be exposed to cleaning chemicals and disinfectants—must follow safety procedures.
  • Handle noise and vibration from machines.
  • Work in warm, cool, or drafty areas, especially near entrances or loading zones.
  • Navigate around furniture, equipment, and people in shared work spaces.
