Responsibilities- Perform moderately complex custodial work, including cleaning, dusting, disinfecting, and sanitizing to maintain a safe and healthy environment.
- Operate floor maintenance equipment such as strippers, buffers, vacuums, and extractors.
- Request and restock supplies as necessary.
- Assist in conducting inspections of buildings and equipment for cleanliness and needed repairs.
- Assist in performing minor building and equipment repairs and installations.
- Maintain assigned custodial equipment in good working order.
- Maintain outside areas around the hospital, clearing trash and debris.
- Work under general supervision with moderate latitude for initiative and independent judgment.
- Participate in disaster response and/or Continuity of Operations (COOP) activation, including alternate shift pattern or location as required.
- Coach other custodians as needed.
- Document work accurately and timely, preserving confidential information and maintaining inventory and equipment records.
- Attend work regularly, following specific shift schedules, rotating schedules, extended shifts, and overtime as required.
- Perform custodial functions with high quality: sweeping, mopping, dusting, cleaning windows and light fixtures; ensure proper sanitization and disinfection.
- Clean and maintain floors, restrooms, nurse stations, and other areas per established procedures and safety measures.
- Maintain and clean interior and exterior of assigned buildings, empty trash, report repairs, and replenish supplies.
- Inspect assigned buildings and areas for cleanliness, completion of work, and needed minor repairs; perform minor maintenance.
- Complete documentation accurately and timely, protecting confidential information and maintaining inventory and equipment records.
- Help patients maintain optimal health and provide a safe environment for themselves, persons served, and others.
- Knowledge of cleaning methods, standards, and sanitation regulations.
- Knowledge of infection control principles and methods.
- Knowledge of inventory control principles and methods.
- Skills in the use of custodial equipment, materials, and safe handling of chemicals.
- Skills in the use and maintenance of building maintenance tools and equipment.
- Ability to stay on task and complete work on time.
- Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
- Ability to lift 50 pounds.
- Ability to stand or walk on hard floors for extended periods.
- Ability to work harmoniously and productively with co-workers and patients.
- Ability to work irregular hours.
- Minimum of six months work experience required.
- Preferred experience in custodial or environmental services work in a nursing home, hospital, residential facility, hotel, or other residential equivalent.
- Must pass a fingerprint criminal background check, pre-employment drug screen, and registry checks including CANRS, Nurse Aid, Medication Aide, Employee Misconduct, and LEIE.
- All applicants must be at least 18 years of age. Waco and Terrell Center for Youth applicants must be 21 years of age.
- Flexibility in work hours may be required; overtime and extended hours possible.
- Compliance with HHSC immunization policy and state hospital operating procedures related to immunizations is required. Vaccination is required for hepatitis B, measles, mumps, rubella, varicella, tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis, and influenza. Unvaccinated influenza workers may need to wear a mask and take other protective measures.
