JOBSUMMARY
- Works under the general supervision of the Utilities Supervisor
- May operate light and heavy motorized equipment
- Participates in all activities relating to street, drainage, water, wastewater, and solid waste maintenance, repair, and construction
- Reads consumer water meters and records readings on handheld meter reading device or book
- Does related work as required
- Responsible for the cleaning and washing, preventative maintenance, and servicing of equipment
- Reads and understands written job instructions and plans
- Writes reports by hand
- Uses good judgment to work safely and use equipment properly
- Mechanical aptitude to troubleshoot existing and potential problems
- Lifts and carries up to 50 pounds
- Pulls, pushes, or drags up to 150 pounds of repair equipment
- Climbs, crawls, kneels, squats, stoops, and bends freely when driving or participating in repairs or reading both digital and dial meters
- Sits or stands for extended periods of time around equipment and in traffic
- Works in confined spaces for extended periods of time
- Work outdoors in extreme temperatures including heat, cold, temperature swings, and inclement weather
- Communicate verbally with citizens
- Ability to walk long distances (approx. 5 miles at a time) while meter reading
- Some exposure to dust, fumes, and loud noises that are routinely encountered in maintenance operations such as mowing, shredding, tree trimming, etc., using proper precautions
- Subject to after-hours call out for emergency situations
- Rotate holidays and weekend shifts
- Safely operates hand tools including hand saws, skill saws, drill press, vibrator, bolt cutters, picks, axes, shovels, air compressors, jackhammers, cutting torch, and various weight hammers
- Provide services to the general public when emergency conditions warrant it, either in preparation for, or as a reaction to, one or more disastrous events such as a civil disturbance, hurricane, tornado, earthquake, flood, ice storm, fire, chemical accident including a hazardous material spill, possible public exposure to hazardous conditions, or other disasters which threaten the safety of the citizens

- Training and
Experience: - High school diploma or GED required
- Class C Texas Driver License
- Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Possess mechanical aptitude to make minor repairs and adjustments to assigned equipment in the field
- Physical Requirements:
- Some tasks involve the regular, and at times sustained performance of heavier physical tasks such as walking over rough or uneven surfaces, bending, stooping, working in confined spaces, and lifting or carrying moderately heavy (20-50 pounds) items
- Some tasks require exposure to adverse environmental conditions (e.g. dirt, cold, rain, fumes)
- Some tasks require exposure to extreme heat/cold or extreme weather conditions
- Some tasks require exposure to strong odors and/or smoke
- Some tasks require exposure to strong and/or toxic chemicals
- Some tasks require exposure to dust or pollen
- Sensory Requirements:
- Some tasks require sound perception and discrimination
- Some tasks require odor perception and discrimination
- Some tasks require depth perception and discrimination
- Some tasks require visual perception and discrimination
