This role blends hands-on leadership with a focus on process, accountability, and continuous improvement across all mechanical, electrical, PLC, and electronic systems.

The Manager of Automation Maintenance Operations is part of the Customer Operations organization which is responsible for leading the day-to-day operations of Symbotic's robotic material handling system. The Customer Operations organization drives operational excellence by engaging and partnering with our onsite customers to drive best-in-class quality, safety and system performance.

What you'll do:

  • Lead and execute Symbotic's maintenance onsite team, overseeing day-to-day operations while training, delegating, and holding technicians and leads accountable.
  • Plan, schedule, and monitor completion of maintenance work orders and related tasks.
  • Drive initiatives to reduce equipment downtime, improve production reliability, and eliminate waste.
  • Apply continuous improvement practices including root cause analysis and corrective action for equipment failures.
  • Troubleshoot complex issues and guide the team toward effective, lasting solutions.
  • Ensure daily compliance with OSHA, Symbotic, and customer safety procedures.
  • Conduct safety training and perform regular safety observations to promote a strong safety culture.
  • Maintain accurate records, reports, and documentation related to maintenance activities.
  • Coach team members and actively support their professional development and performance growth.
  • Manage vendor and subcontractor relationships to support maintenance goals.
  • Purchase materials, parts, and supplies to maintain proper inventory levels and equipment availability.
  • Maintain clean, organized work areas in accordance with 5S standards.
  • Other duties assigned

What you'll need:

  • Associate degree, equivalent certification, or relevant hands-on experience in electronics, automotive, automation, manufacturing, or a year of experience in related field required; bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a maintenance leadership role preferred.
  • Strong electro-mechanical skills including preventive maintenance, electrical system inspections, and tolerance checks.
  • Proficiency with CMMS platforms — Maximo experience preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills — written, verbal, and presentation.
  • High sense of urgency with the ability to prioritize effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Skilled in progressive coaching and performance management techniques.
  • Collaborative team player who is open to feedback and committed to continuous improvement.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).

Our Environment:

  • Must be able to work at heights of up to 45 feet and within restrictive areas of 24 inches.
  • Subject to environmental conditions, protection from weather conditions but not necessarily temperature changes. Must be capable of working in temperatures ranging from 105° to 32° Fahrenheit.
  • Frequent ability to safely and efficiently lift items weighing up to 60lbs and move items weighing up to 80lbs.
  • Stand/walk for up to 10-12 hours.
