Building Maintenance, Maintenance Technician / Mechanic
Location: Burnet
Maintenance Technician Jail
This position under the direction of the Jail Administrator, performs a variety of routine and complex, technical work in analyzing various components of the overall maintenance of Burnet County facilities and property.
Essential Responsibilities And Duties
1. Maintaining and keeping in good functioning repair all county equipment and facilities as instructed through work orders and or regular scheduled maintenance. Operate small and large hand and power tools such as saws, hammers, drills, welder, ladders, mower, weed eater, chainsaw, sewer machine, framing square, screw drivers, wrenches, jacks, shovels, racks, cutters, cement mixer, scaffolding, paintbrush and rollers, spray guns.
Operate heavy equipment such as bucket truck, backhoe, skidsteer, manlift and ability to operate vehicle with trailer in tow. Operate computer, type, answer phone, and small business machines such as calculator. Operate metering devices such as electrical meter, air gauges, Freon gauges, thermal reading meters, water meters and timers. Perform construction on county buildings and property such as, remove and replace interior and exterior walls, concrete, flooring, doors, ceilings, roofs, plumbing, electrical and HVAC.
Perform lawn maintenance such as clear brush, mow lawn, trim shrubs & trees, excavate earth. Perform janitorial duties such as mop, sweep, remove trash, clean restrooms and other areas of county facilities.
2. Advise Jail Administrator of issues as they pertain to individual/company awarded contracts.
3. Perform repairs, maintenance or installations that insure thorough structural strength, stability, sanitation, adequate lighting, plumbing, HVAC and safety to life and property from fire, flood or other hazards.
4. Will immediately communicate all issues regardless of priority to the Jail Administrator. Maintenance Technician Jail Location
5. Monitor installation and maintenance of equipment for all facilities, including clearing, grading, drainage and foundation work as instructed and any other duties assigned.
Additional Responsibilities
1. Maintenance Technician will supervise and assist inmates from Intermediate Sanction Facilities and Burnet County Jail with tasks assigned by the Jail Administrator.
2. Maintenance Technician will prepare reports for daily, weekly and monthly work task as requested by Jail Administrator.
3. The use of a maintenance program designated by the maintenance supervisor will be required.
Education Requirements
Must have high school diploma or GED. Must have a valid Class C Texas Driver's License issued by the Texas Department of Public Safety. Must have TCOLE jailers license and or obtain one within 90 days.
Experience And Skills
Must have minimum one (1) year directly related experience in basic entry- level maintenance, troubleshooting, repair and safety as it pertains to maintenance. Must have six (6) months experience reading and understanding blue prints, schematics and/or architectural drawings in English. Must be able to use hand/power tools large and small, including janitorial equipment, lawn equipment, metering devices. Must be proficient with the use of a personal computer, including Microsoft Word and Outlook.
Physical Demands And Work Environment
Requires frequent travel representing the County of Burnet. Frequent sitting, standing, squatting, kneeling, walking long distances, talking and hearing. The frequent use of hands, fingers to handle or feel objects, tools or controls; and, reach with hands and arms. Must have the ability to see (ability to adjust focus), read, write documentation as instructed. Occasionally lift and/or move (push/pull/drag) up to 100 pounds with reasonable accommodations.
Special Conditions Maintenance Technician will be required to work under hazardous conditions to include but not limited to heights, energy sources, high noise levels, chemicals, moving parts, weather conditions and unpleasant odors. Must be easily contacted and able to respond to after hours issues within 30 minutes when scheduled for On-Call status. Must be willing to work overtime as assigned by supervisor.
Must attend safety training classes and apply safe work practices to all aspects of work.
