You'll operate valves, hydrants, and blow-offs; monitor water quality; track maintenance activities; and prepare field reports — all while working in a dynamic outdoor environment. This is a 4-month contract with the possibility of transitioning to a full-time role.
WhatYou'll Do
- Operate valves, hydrants, and blow-offs to perform flushing techniques that restore and maintain water quality in the distribution system
- Review utility distribution maps to determine water source, flow, valve locations, and flushing points
- Monitor water quality using field test equipment and document results
- Implement flushing plans using automated technologies including Cityworks and GIS-based tracking tools
- Determine operational status of distribution infrastructure and document repair needs for work order generation
- Prepare written and electronic field data records covering flushing locations, flow, water loss, and water quality
- Schedule, track, and ensure completion of preventive and corrective maintenance flushing activities
- Maintain inventory of parts and tools for flushing operations
- Prepare customer complaint reports and service maps
- Report to Lead Flushing Technician; perform other related duties as assigned
- High school diploma or GED
- Valid Florida Driver's License
- Skilled utilities field experience with water delivery systems, water quality monitoring, and flushing operations
- Ability to operate irrigation water distribution infrastructure — valves, fire hydrants, and blow-offs
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, plats, maps, aerial photos, and diagrams
- Proficiency with computer applications for documentation, tracking, and reporting
- Ability to work varied schedules including emergency and disaster situations as required
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; professional interaction with the public and other agencies
