Reports To: Support Services/Maintenance Manager

SUMMARY

The position of Building Maintenance worker reports directly to the Support Services/Maintenance Manager and is responsible for assisting with routine repairs which are needed to buildings on campus.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • High School diploma or equivalent work experience.
  • Knowledge and ability to operate various types of tools and power equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Work in and out of doors in varying weather conditions without restrictions.
  • Effectively handle and lift objects weighing up to 60 pounds regularly and 100 pounds occasionally.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Ability to perform manual labor and operate landscaping equipment including, but not limited to weed trimmer, leaf blower, lawn mower.
  • Ability to work from a ladder to clean gutters, paint and complete repairs.
  • Must manage multiple tasks, work independently as well as in a team with limited supervision.
  • Meet general employment qualifications as outlined in the agency’s personnel policies.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsibilities:

  • Complete repairs needed to buildings on campus, including those requiring electrical, plumbing, or carpentry skills, and maintain campus grounds as needed.
  • Maintain gutters, fix potholes, fertilize/lime grounds, spread pine needles and mulch, and clean up limbs and debris as directed.
  • Assist with maintenance of pool if applicable.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other agencies, and the public.
  • Communicate effectively in writing and verbally.
  • Keep maintenance supervisor informed of items needing repair or situations requiring supervision’s expertise.
  • May be required to work additional hours for special events.
  • Represent Baptist Children’s Homes of NC, Inc. professionally.
  • Respect cultural and socioeconomic diversity, striving to create positive relationships within BCH.
  • Participate in the agency’s Performance Quality Improvement (PQI) program as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Working knowledge:

  • Tools, materials, methods, and practices used in a maintenance position.
  • Awareness of occupational hazards and operating tools and equipment per safety regulations.
  • Operation of power, manual tools, and light duty equipment.
  • Follow instructions when given direction or to complete a task.
EQUIPMENT

Ability to operate various types of tools and equipment safely and efficiently.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general information. Ability to effectively communicate with managers, coworkers, general staff, and the public.

CONTACT WITH OTHERS

Regular contact with colleagues in all departments and with outside individuals and groups; represent Baptist Children’s Homes of NC, Inc. positively. Outside contacts require proper handling to protect the agency’s image.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to read, measure, and calculate numbers to complete repairs and projects.

MENTAL / VISUAL / AUDITORY DEMAND

Ability to interpret instructions in written, oral, or diagram form and draw conclusions. Requires close vision and ability to adjust focus. Must be able to talk and hear both in person and on the telephone.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The physical demands described here are representative of those required to perform this job. The employee must climb, stoop, sit, stand, walk, reach, use fingers and hands, and lift 60 pounds regularly and 100 pounds occasionally. Reasonable accommodations may be made for disabilities.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work environment is typical for maintenance/groundskeeping. Injury may occur if safety guidelines for specific projects are not followed.
