Position: CARETAKER II, BALARAT

Caretaker II – Balarat Campus

Caretaker II is required to live on site, where housing is provided. The Balarat campus is located in the foothills near Jamestown, CO.

About This Job

Provides support for all aspects of facility care at the Balarat campus, buildings and grounds, which include 750 acres of land, 12 miles of trails, two miles of roads, 22,000 square feet of heated structures, 28 outbuildings, two high challenge courses and three water systems including 10 wells and three wastewater systems.

What You’ll Do
  • Perform general grounds care: clean up trash, fences, approaches, entrances, exits; keep all areas free of unauthorized obstructions; shovel snow; salt and sand icy walks and steps.
  • Help with trail building and maintenance, erosion control and revegetation, weed control, defensible space; provide fire prevention, readiness and initial response.
  • Assist with road maintenance: snow removal, sanding, ditching, grading, culvert cleanout and replacement, resurfacing; assist school buses during inclement weather.
  • Assist with building maintenance and repair, equipment check and replacement of challenge courses.
  • Assist with overall building maintenance, repair and operation: HVAC, basic plumbing and electrical, appliances, roofing, doors, windows, paint; construct and maintain accessory outbuildings/structures.
  • Maintain toilet fixtures, flush floor drains, unclog drains; replace broken and burned-out fluorescent tubes and bulbs; maintain boilers; operate facility heaters, pumps, filters; regulate temperature, pH, chlorine; replace/clean filters; clean air ducts; adjust vents.
  • Assist with maintaining water systems and wells: routine monitoring and treatment, inspections, repairs; clean fresh water wells and disposal systems as required; assist wastewater systems: inspections and maintenance, contractors, state licensing.
  • Perform general cleaning and custodian services in all buildings: lounges, bathrooms, concession areas, cafeterias, stairs, corridors as assigned.
  • Assist with basic repair and preventative maintenance of supporting equipment: grader, backhoe, dozer, trucks, ORVs, mixer, chipper, splitters, generators, pumps, chainsaws; conduct scheduled and random audits of facility operating equipment; check fire extinguishers, ladders, scaffolding; conduct safety checks; report unsafe conditions.
  • Participate in fire and civil defense drills; maintain current state of emergency preparedness; provide site security, emergency contact and response; maintain relationships with adjacent land owners; secure buildings and grounds when closed.
  • Lead on-site management areas as assigned.
What You’ll Need
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Wilderness First Responder certification required within six months of hire.
  • Valid Colorado driver’s license or ability to obtain one within required timeframe; meet district insurability requirements.
