Description of Job
Perform boat inspector and decontaminator responsibilities according to state regulations and standard protocols at the CBT’s (Grand Lake, Granby Reservoir and Shadow Mountain Reservoir) near Grand Lake, Colorado.
LEAD AQUATIC NUISANCE SPECIES (ANS) INSPECTORLead boat inspector will be responsible for providing on‑the‑job training to inspection staff, creating schedules, and ensuring all shifts are covered during operational hours.
- Collect and verify accurate time‑keeping records for payroll purposes, work with area work lead to resolve challenges with staff and customers, and recommend hiring/firing of employees to area work lead.
- Ensure inspection station staff follow standardized protocols by performing monthly quality‑control assessments.
- Ensure data entry is accurate and complete by all inspection station staff, maintain inventory of required supplies, and perform basic maintenance & troubleshooting on power washer/decontamination unit.
- Provide public outreach on aquatic invasive species.
- Early morning, evening, and weekend work is required.
A customer‑service–based position that involves inspecting for invasive Zebra/Quagga mussels, Milfoil or other plant species on boats and personal watercraft at an inspection point on the park. Daily interaction with park visitors requires effective communication and public‑relations skills.
- Staff the park ANS inspection station.
- Conduct physical boat inspections and boater interviews.
- Provide information and assistance to the boating public (distribute brochures, promote ANS education, educate about State Park regulations, etc.).
- Cleaning and light maintenance duties of interior and exterior of ANS inspection areas, including maintenance of facilities and grounds.
- Accurate counting and recording of all boat inspections, either written or by phone‑application software.
- Training in boat inspection and decontamination procedures will be provided.
- May document and report visitor complaints.
- Other duties as assigned.
- May be required to work an 8‑hour shift at the ANS station and take lunch at the station.
- High school diploma.
- Good driving record.
- Ability to work weekends, early morning, and late evenings.
- Experience working with boats, trailers, power washers, small engines and/or heavy equipment preferred.
- Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Excellent customer service experience working with the public desired.
- Reliable and timely.
- Ability to self‑motivate and work independently.
