Description

Custodians - Facility Maintenance are responsible for the cleanliness, sanitation, security and basic maintenance along with repairs of the assigned school area, building, grounds and equipment.

The typical shift available will be typical from 11:30 am to 8:00 pm; please note the schedule may need to be modified for school events or other activities to suit the operational needs of the school operations.

This 12‑month position offers a pay range of $21.00–$26.00 per hour depending on experience. Duties and Responsibilities
  • Perform daily cleaning duties, including removing trash, handling recycling, and cleaning/sanitizing all facilities such as classrooms, restrooms, hallways, stairwells, common areas, offices, cafeteria, gymnasium, media center, locker rooms, auditoriums, stages, and custodial offices/storage areas; also perform deep cleaning, carpet cleaning, and floor waxing as needed.
  • Assist staff, students, teachers, and community groups using the building during assigned shifts, setting up and tearing down audiovisual equipment, moving furniture, testing equipment, and troubleshooting audiovisual problems to ensure functionality. Answer questions, respond to requests, and direct individuals to appropriate areas.
  • Assist with building operations for building use and events, including setting up, cleaning up, locking/unlocking access areas, and supporting individuals using building areas.
  • Secure building and areas with valuable equipment.
  • Conduct building and site safety checks, including inspection for hazards, pest removal (e.g., wasp/bee nests), graffiti, vandalism; respond to fire and burglar alarms and report findings to supervisor.
  • Perform maintenance/repair tasks on interior and exterior property areas, including painting, drywall, structural repairs, parking lot and sidewalk maintenance, plumbing repairs, clearing drain stoppages, interior and exterior lighting repairs, mowing, edging, tree trimming, snow and ice removal, gravel removal, and cleaning external windows, doors, lighting, and fence debris.
  • Communicate with the Custodian and Facility Lead and Facility Manager about department issues, supplies, and needs via verbal or written logs; maintain radio contact.
  • Execute seasonal, summer, project cleaning, and grounds maintenance as planned and assigned.
  • Support trades in related job duties; respond to emergency maintenance requests; monitor maintenance schedules to ensure timely task completion.
  • Deliver supplies and materials to multiple buildings and classrooms across campus.
  • Perform other job‑related duties as assigned.
Education and Work Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Minimum age 18 years.
  • No experience required; experience in general cleaning, chemical handling, and customer service preferred.
  • Criminal background check required for hire.
  • Safety and pesticide training required within six months of starting; ongoing follow‑up training required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Basic problem‑solving skills.
  • Ability to acquire skills necessary to operate various cleaning equipment.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and adapt to changes without notice.
  • Ability to work independently and with a team.
  • Ability to adjust schedule for inclement weather or school events.
  • Detail‑oriented and customer‑service oriented.
  • Ability to promote and follow the Governance Board, District Board of Education, school policies, and department procedures.
  • Ability to communicate, interact, and cooperate effectively with all people, including those from diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to recognize the importance of safety, follow safety rules, practice safe work habits, use appropriate safety equipment, and report unsafe conditions.
