Schedule:

6:00am – 2:30pm shifts, some weekends (additional $2.00/hour), some holidays, 1st shift.

Summary:

Building Cleaning Workers I – Perform independent cleaning, custodial or janitorial duties associated with the care, cleaning and maintenance of multiple buildings/facilities for the State of New Hampshire Veterans Home; may include assignment to multiple units, areas, locations.

Building Cleaning Workers II – Serve as a team or crew lead, and/or shift point person and independently provide a full range of cleaning, custodial or janitorial duties associated with the care, cleaning, and maintenance of one or multiple state facilities, buildings, grounds or institutions; may include assignment to multiple units, areas, locations or districts.

YOUR EXPERIENCE COUNTS:
Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required work experience and/or each additional year of approved work experience may be substituted for one year of required formal education.

Minimum Qualifications (Level I): 8th grade education; no license or certification required.

Preferred Qualifications (Level I):

  • Knowledge of the methods and practices of cleaning services in a large complex, health facility, or building
  • Knowledge of the principles and processes for providing customer and personal services
  • Knowledge of quality standards for health, environment and safety
  • Ability to read and write and to prepare both written and oral reports
  • Ability to listen and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences
  • Ability to arrange things or actions in a certain order or pattern according to a specific rule or set of rules (e.g., patterns of numbers, letters, words, pictures, mathematical operations)
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
  • Ability to tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong
  • Must be willing to maintain appearance appropriate to assigned duties and responsibilities as determined by the agency appointing authority

High school diploma or equivalent credential; no license or certification required.

  • Must have completed at least six months (full-time) or one year (part-time) of employment as a Building Cleaning Worker I
  • Must receive a satisfactory performance evaluation
  • Must be approved for promotion at the discretion of agency management to satisfy organizational/business needs
  • Must receive a recommendation for promotion to Building Cleaning Worker II by the immediate supervisor

Responsibilities (Level I):

  • Perform light to heavy physical all-inclusive housekeeping, floor care and custodial activities that require considerable use of arms and legs and whole body movement such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, or handling equipment and materials to perform cleaning duties.
