Bilingual/ ESL (English as a Second Language) Teacher Spanish/Arabic Preferred
The Bilingual/ ESL teacher shall provide instruction to help potentially English proficient students develop cognitive, academic language abilities in order to function at grade level in monolingual English classes.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Identifies and assesses academic level, language proficiency level, cultural history and linguistic history of students who may be/are eligible for bilingual services;
- Makes recommendations as to the best placement within the bilingual program (full or part time);
- Provides direct bilingual and English-As-A-Second-Language (ESL) instruction to students;
- Designs lessons and coordinates instruction provided by bilingual instructional aides to students in the bilingual class;
- Participates in the Child Study Team meetings and staffings of potentially English proficient students.
- Instructs pupils in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school district.
- Develops lesson plans and supplementary materials compatible with the basic instructional philosophy.
- Provides learning experiences that develop the basic communication skills, using tape recorders and other electronic equipment as appropriate.
- Provides individualized and small-group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil.
- Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to provide an orderly, productive classroom environment.
- Evaluates each pupil's progress and communicates with parents and school counselors on pupil progress;
- Identifies pupil needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in helping pupils solve health, attitude and learning problems;
- Participates in curriculum and other developmental programs.
- Participates in faculty committees and the sponsorship of student activities.
- Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the District and/or in self-selected professional growth activities.
- Other related duties as assigned.

Work Environment:
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to video display and regularly works in inside environmental conditions. The employee occasionally works evenings or weekends.
The employee is occasionally exposed to outdoors weather conditions and works with use of personal vehicle. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
