LHH is partnering with a growing company in the engineering and communications hardware sector to identify a Mechanical Design Engineer
. This organization develops highly specialized technical equipment used in demanding real‑world environments. The role offers the chance to work on customized engineered products that support mission‑critical applications, while collaborating closely with a small, highly technical team.
The Mechanical Design Engineer will be responsible for designing mechanical components and assemblies used in advanced communication and hardware systems. This role supports both new product development and improvements to existing product lines and requires strong collaboration with engineering, technical, and manufacturing teams.
This is a hands‑on, design‑heavy role ideal for an engineer who enjoys solving complex mechanical challenges, developing custom solutions, and supporting products from concept through production.
Key Responsibilities Mechanical Design & Product Development- Design mechanical assemblies, enclosures, housings, structural components, and mounting hardware for specialized engineered systems.
- Create detailed 3D CAD models, engineering drawings, specifications, and bills of materials.
- Conduct tolerance analysis, material selection, and mechanical stress considerations for a variety of environmental and structural conditions.
- Support the development of customized products tailored to unique client and industry requirements.
- Work collaboratively with engineering team members to integrate mechanical and system‑level requirements.
- Partner with manufacturing teams to ensure designs are optimized for fabrication, assembly, and long‑term reliability.
- Participate in design reviews, prototyping activities, and mechanical testing.
- Support product installation documentation and ensure compatibility with field‑use conditions.
- Assist in troubleshooting and improving mechanical components across existing product lines.
- Provide engineering input during production and deployment cycles.
- Contribute to enhancements in design standards, documentation practices, and product development processes.
- Stay current with evolving materials, mechanical methods, and technology relevant to the product line.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field.
- 3+ years of mechanical design experience; experience with engineered hardware, communications equipment, or similar industries preferred.
- Proficiency in 3D CAD modeling and creating production‑ready drawings.
- Strong understanding of mechanical fundamentals such as load/structural analysis, thermal considerations, vibration impacts, and environmental durability.
- Demonstrated ability to work within a collaborative engineering environment.
- Strong communication, documentation, and problem‑solving skills.
- Experience designing equipment such as precision mechanical assemblies, outdoor enclosures, hardware mounts, or similar engineered components.
- Familiarity with manufacturing methods including sheet metal fabrication, machining, and composite materials.
- Experience considering environmental ratings or system requirements for outdoor or industrial‑grade equipment.
- Background in small engineering teams or custom product development environments.
- High‑impact design ownership in a specialized engineering field.
- Exposure to challenging mechanical problems and custom product development.
