Overview

  • Conduct a functional communication evaluation for a fifth-grade deaf student.
  • Assess the students use of American Sign Language for educational access.
  • Review existing IEP documentation, interpreter supports, and communication accommodations.
  • Evaluate communication methods used across school, home, and community environments.
  • Complete assessment activities in one or multiple sessions as appropriate.
  • Prepare and submit a written evaluation report to the district upon completion.
  • Coordinate with district staff to ensure evaluation timelines and compliance requirements are met.
Responsibilities

Qualifications
  • Valid Speech-Language Pathologist licensure.
  • Demonstrated fluency in American Sign Language (ASL).
  • Experience evaluating deaf or hard of hearing students.
  • Knowledge of functional communication assessments and IEP-related evaluation requirements.
  • Ability to conduct in-person evaluations during school hours (7:45 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.).
  • Ability to pass or provide a clean background check acceptable to the district.
  • Experience working with students who use cochlear implants (optional).
  • Familiarity with educational interpreters and multimodal communication systems (optional).
  • Prior experience completing short-term or contract-based school evaluations (optional).
