Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED diploma.
- Previous experience with a Skilled Nursing Facility, or Long Term Care Facility preferred.
- A working understanding of physical plant repairs/preventive maintenance and grounds maintenance.
- Valid driver’s license.
Performs general maintenance of the property including grounds and physical plant, including but not limited to:
- Painting, chipped, faded or scheduled areas
- Basic plumbing such as fixture repair/replacement to avoid water damage
- Basic carpentry such as hand rail repair, dresser drawer pull repair
- Window, wall repair
- Call system repair
- Light fixture repair
- Electrical switch plate, outlet cover repairs
- Replace light bulbs
- Heating/cooling and general wiring repair. (Note if special certifications are required)
- General equipment repair
Maintains working list of all medical equipment in the facility and service/repair records.
Performs preventive maintenance on medical equipment in the facility.
Follows manufacturer’s specifications regarding repair and preventive maintenance of medical and other equipment in the facility.
Checks maintenance request logs multiple times daily and performs follow‑up.
Communicates to maintenance director if not able to properly repair item as needed of repair in order to obtain external assistance when necessary.
Performs grounds maintenance to include but not limited to:
- Mowing, weed control
- Debris removal
- Flower bed(s) upkeep
- Pressure washing outside of the facility
- Painting of exterior facility as assigned by the maintenance director
Rounds daily multiple times a day on his/her designated unit(s) to identify and proactively address areas in need of repair.
Ensures the provision of a safe environment of care is maintained by completing self‑identified and assigned maintenance tasks timely.
Completes additional tasks as assigned by the maintenance director.
Follows facility’s Fire Safety program, complies with the 2012 version of the Life Safety Code and Health Care Facilities Code. This includes but is not limited to required fire drills, training on the facility’s fire safety plan, safe use of oxygen, electrical safety as designated by the facility Maintenance Director.
Complies with OSHA standards. Some of OSHA’s required trainings overlap with fire safety requirements. Additional required trainings may include but are not limited to those related to reporting of work‑related incidents, blood‑borne pathogens‑hazardous waste removal, hazard communication, personal protective equipment, and ergonomics.
Assists the Maintenance Director with the development and implementation of the facility’s Emergency Preparedness Plan. A training program must reflect the risks identified in the facility’s risk assessment so that staff can demonstrate knowledge of emergency procedures. Drills and exercises are required to test the effectiveness of the training.
Assists the Maintenance Director with development and implementation of the facility’s Life Safety Code compliance plan.
Tracks and maintains receipts of materials approved for purchase and receipts.
