The Grounds Maintenance role is a full-time, on-site position located at Ottawa Hills Local Schools. This role is responsible for the daily care, upkeep, and appearance of district grounds, including mowing, trimming, edging, and maintaining landscaping areas around school facilities. Typical tasks include operating and caring for grounds-keeping equipment, performing seasonal duties such as snow and ice removal, leaf cleanup, and basic irrigation support.
The role also involves routine inspections of outdoor areas, minor repair work on grounds and equipment, and adherence to safety procedures and district maintenance standards. The Grounds Maintenance professional will collaborate with the facilities team and school leadership to ensure outdoor spaces are safe, clean, and welcoming for students, staff, and visitors.
- Strong skills in Equipment Maintenance and Preventive Maintenance for grounds-keeping tools and machinery.
- Demonstrated ability in Maintenance & Repair and general Maintenance of outdoor facilities and related structures.
- Competence in Troubleshooting equipment issues and identifying basic grounds-related repairs.
- Experience operating lawn care and landscaping equipment (e.g., mowers, trimmers, blowers, snow removal equipment).
- Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, work outdoors in varying weather conditions, and follow safety protocols.
- Effective time management, reliability, and ability to work both independently and as part of a facilities team.
- High school diploma or equivalent; prior grounds, landscaping, or facilities maintenance experience preferred.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to meet district background check and employment eligibility requirements.
