DEPARTMENT:
Buildings & Grounds (Maintenance)
Under direction, performs a wide variety of routine maintenance and repair tasks across County buildings and facilities. Work includes general maintenance activities involving masonry, plastering, carpentry, painting, plumbing, steamfitting, sheet metal, electrical, glazing, mechanical systems, and related trades. This position supports the safe, functional, and efficient operation of County infrastructure and performs related duties as required.
RESPONSIBILITIES- Performs routine maintenance and repair work on County facilities, structures, and equipment.
- Erects simple forms, mixes cement and aggregates, pours concrete, and performs basic finishing work.
- Patches and repairs brick, concrete, plastered walls, and ceilings.
- Spackles and paints interior and exterior metal, wood, and masonry surfaces.
- Repairs plumbing stoppages and leaks in copper, soil, and iron piping.
- Replaces washers, gaskets, and performs general plumbing service repairs.
- Performs basic sheet metal work, including repairs to roofs, drainboards, and rainspouts.
- Replaces light bulbs, fuses, wall plates, fixture cords, switches, broken glass, and performs re-puttying as needed.
- Conducts light maintenance on equipment and vehicles, including lubrication and refueling.
- Cleans, maintains, and properly stores tools and equipment.
- Maintains simple records related to work performed.
- Learns and utilizes electronic and/or manual recording and computerized information systems used by the County.
- Performs related duties as assigned in support of Buildings and Grounds operations.
Note:

- Appointees will be required to possess a valid New Jersey driver's license only if operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position.
- Appointees may be required to possess a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) and applicable endorsements for the class and type of vehicle being operated.
Note:
Responsibility for ensuring employees possess the appropriate motor vehicle license, consistent with the class and type of vehicle operated, rests with the Appointing Authority.
- Knowledge of standard tools, materials, methods, and practices used in general building maintenance and repair work.
- Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions associated with maintenance and repair activities.
- Ability to understand, remember, and carry out oral and written instructions.
- Ability to observe and apply required safety precautions while performing assigned work.
- Ability to obtain, store, safeguard, distribute, and properly use equipment, materials, and supplies.
- Ability to maintain simple records and documentation.
- Ability to learn and utilize electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the County.
