The Maintenance Technician II is in an entry level position. The Maintenance Technician II is responsible for performing routine maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on equipment, systems, and facilities to ensure safe and efficient operation. This role supports daily operations by minimizing downtime and maintaining a clean, organized, and functional work environment. Astra will provide all basic tools and supplies needed to perform job duties.
Astra will not be responsible for any personal tools or supplies utilized by staff. Astra will provide a company vehicle, when necessary, that will be left at the facility at the end of each workday.
During times when primary responsibilities are limited, the Maintenance Technician II may be asked to assist in other areas as needed to support overall operations, regardless of the specific role.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS- Special projects which do not require outside contractors and assist in areas as needed that may require additional expertise.
- Work with outside contractors such as, but not limited to, Simplex, Jayhawk and Honeywell as requested by the Manager of Facilities/Maintenance.
- Assist Manager of Facilities/Maintenance with projects as needed.
- Lawn maintenance includes mowing and trimming trees and bushes.
- Snow removal and salting of sidewalks.
- Assist with moving furniture.
- Assist with mail runs & supply delivery.
- Conduct building and facility repairs such as lighting, doors, flooring, drywall, painting, and general structural maintenance.
- Install, assemble, or modify equipment and components as needed.
- Monitor equipment performance and recommend improvements or replacements.
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations and policies.
- Assist with facility inspections, audits, and emergency repairs.
- Maintain accurate logs of maintenance activities, repairs, and parts used.
- Perform internal safety / building inspections of emergency equipment, emergency lights and fire extinguishers.
- Ensure all buildings are safe for staff and persons served.
- Collaborate with other departments to support smooth operations.
- Respond promptly to maintenance requests and work orders.
- Demonstrate effective communication to achieve a positive relationship internally and externally.
- Establish appropriate and professional boundaries with all individuals. Treat individuals with dignity and respect at all times.
- Consistently demonstrate the ability to work effectively within a team as well as individually.
- Assure compliance with department and agency policy and procedures, guidelines, and timelines.
- Willing to flex work schedule to be available on-call 24/7 to include evening, nights, weekends, and holiday emergency call outs.
- Demonstrate cultural and linguistic competence
- Approach interactions with individuals served and colleagues with a trauma sensitive lens
- Acts as an ambassador of the agency in the community setting, which may include doing public educational and informational presentations.
- Support and actively promote the vision and mission of the agency and the philosophy of the strengths perspective
- Completes required trainings
- Other duties as assigned, as qualified and trained for.
- High School Diploma/GED required
- Minimum of 3 years maintenance experience.
- Desirable traits include ability to work independently, good communication skills, ability to assume responsibility for tasks assigned, ability to make decisions/judgments in the absence of the Manager.
- Experience with trailer maintenance preferred.
- Must have a working knowledge of handheld and electric power tools.
- Basic computer skills for work order and maintenance software.
- Must have good command of the English language; must be able to read, communicate clearly and therapeutically with persons served and staff, both verbally and in writing, in a professional manner.
- Successful completion of criminal background check and DCF Child & Adult Abuse Registry check, and other applicable background investigations.
