Job Summary

The Lead Environmental Services Technician is responsible for maintaining a safe and clean work environment for employees and visitors. The lead position serves as the main point of contact for the department, supporting projects assigned by department leadership. This position is eligible to work onsite at our Topeka campus. Applicants must reside in Kansas or Missouri or be willing to relocate as a condition of employment.

What

you’ll do
  • Perform daily tasks of an environmental services technician.
  • Act as the primary point of contact between the evening shift and department leadership.
  • Serve as the point of contact for vendors when the supervisor is unavailable.
  • Respond to BCBSKS employee requests.
  • Fulfill supply requests for team members while maintaining accurate inventory records and ensuring adequate stock levels.
  • Complete detailed inspections and reports on floor conditions.
  • Manage team schedules and assignments when the supervisor is not available.
What you need
  • Ability to read and comprehend hazardous material safety instructions.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • General knowledge of equipment and chemicals used in Environmental Service assignments.
  • Ability to respond to and resolve team issues in a professional manner when the supervisor is not available.
  • Ability to perform thorough and detailed inspections with a high degree of accuracy, identify potential issues, and ensure adherence to established standards and procedures.
  • Skill in communicating and reinforcing departmental goals, expectations, and initiatives to support leadership’s strategic direction while building team engagement, accountability, and commitment.
Education and Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 2 years in Environmental Services or housekeeping functions in a large facility.
  • Driver’s license required.
  • Prior leadership experience preferred.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to perform physical work including standing for long periods, lifting up to 20 lbs., kneeling, stooping, bending, stretching, and inspecting objects in high places.
  • Must be able to maintain a stationary position, vacuum, and move arms for up to five hours at a time.
  • Exposure to dust and cleaning compounds.
Compensation

$20.96 to $26.20 per hour (Non‑Exempt, Grade 11). The compensation range is a good‑faith estimate based on the selected candidate’s skills, education, experience, and training. All offers are reviewed to ensure fair, equitable pay.
