Position: Part-Time Day Custodian -12pm-4pm

Overview

Spring Meadow Early Childhood Center (main), CBMS, OHS, OSES. Under the direction of the Chief Custodian, the Custodian provides a safe, healthy, and clean building. Responsibilities include cleaning, minor and preventative maintenance; snow removal and grounds work. The Custodian enforces State rules and regulations and district policies to ensure the optimum operation of the educational program. This is a 12-month position.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

The following information describes the general nature and scope of work for this position and is not a comprehensive list; other tasks may be assigned as appropriate.

  • Night Shift positions are any positions that have a start time after 1:00 pm.
  • This position is considered an Essential Employee position.
  • Flexibility is important, as hours are subject to change.
  • Performs a variety of custodial tasks including sweeping, dry or wet mopping, waxing, buffing, vacuuming, cleaning walls and ceilings, windows, furniture, lights, bathrooms; shampooing carpets; moving furniture and other supplies; cleaning outside grounds; helping to load and unload trucks; shoveling and removal of snow and ice; cutting grass and trimming; opening and closing the building; and securing the alarm system.
  • Provides minor maintenance to the building and equipment, including replacement of light bulbs, painting, cleaning boilers and heating equipment, and care for lawn mowers, trimmers, vacuum cleaners, and buffers.
  • Drives cars or trucks to pick up equipment, supplies, parts, and mail.
  • Other related custodial and minor maintenance duties as assigned by the Chief Custodian, supervisor of custodians, and/or building and grounds supervisor.
  • Assumes other responsibilities as may be assigned by the Chief Custodian, Principal, and/or the Buildings and Grounds Supervisor.
  • Checks and secures the building at the beginning and end of shift to ensure safety and cleanliness.
  • Cleans rooms, hallways, cafeterias, restrooms, offices, stairways, and other areas of the building according to district standards.
  • Sweeps, mops, buffs, strips, and waxes floors; cleans rugs, carpets, upholstery, and blinds; washes walls, ceilings, woodwork, windows, doors, and sills; removes graffiti and cleans glass areas; replaces light bulbs.
  • Sets up and breaks down chairs, tables, and equipment in meeting rooms and functional rooms.
  • Clears snow from entrances and walks; spreads sand and ice-melting chemicals; performs grounds-keeping duties and maintains grounds.
  • Receives deliveries and assists in unloading trucks and storing supplies; delivers supplies and materials to classrooms, bathrooms, and other areas of the building.
  • Empties wastebaskets and participates in recycling programs.
Minimum Qualifications

Below are the qualifications for this position:

  • High School Diploma or GED - preferred
  • Valid Class D Driver's License with good driving record
  • Knowledge of cleaning materials, methods, equipment and procedures
  • Ability to perform minor maintenance
  • Ability to follow oral or written directions
  • Ability to work cooperatively with teachers, students, administrators, co-workers and the public
  • Good physical health and strength to perform routine duties of lifting and cleaning

While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently communicates and may need to convey detailed or important spoken instructions. The employee must possess normal cognitive abilities and the ability to learn, recall, and apply skills. Ability to perform work requiring sustained moderate physical effort, operate certain equipment, move objects weighing 40–50 pounds, and stand for extended periods.

Physical and Environmental Conditions

The work is generally performed in a school kitchen and cafeteria environment.
