Pay dates occur on the 7th and 22nd of each month, adjusted to the Friday prior if on a weekend. Eligible employees are also entitled to a comprehensive benefits package.
Position SummaryA well‑rounded groundskeeper responsible for maintaining campus grounds, roads, parking lots, landscaping, snow removal, event support, and safety equipment. Responsible for daily upkeep and seasonal tasks, and for assisting emergency operations.
Eligible for employees who are residents of Maryland or one of the following states:
Delaware, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia, or the District of Columbia. Applicants must be authorized to work in the U.S. on a full‑time basis. Employment‑based visa sponsorship is not available.
- Collect and dispose of trash from campus grounds and parking lots, empty trash containers, and remove leaves and debris from steps and sidewalks.
- Mow grass, trim and edge as needed, and remove clippings from streets and sidewalks.
- Establish and maintain flowerbeds, shrubbery, and trees, including soil preparation, planting, fertilizing, thinning, mulching, feeding, watering, pruning, raking leaves, and weeding; perform tree planting and removal as required.
- Maintain snow removal equipment, attach plow blades and salt spreaders, and operate equipment to keep campus roadways, walkways, common areas, and steps clear of ice and snow; clean and repair equipment and vehicles as needed.
- Assist in setting up and breaking down room arrangements for college‑sponsored events, including flooring, staging, furniture, seating, and decorations.
- Assemble, relocate furniture and equipment for both main campus and satellite facilities.
- Unload freight in support of college departments such as the Print Shop, Bookstore, and Central Services.
- Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on all grounds equipment to ensure safe and efficient operation.
- Operate forklifts, front‑end loaders, tractors, bucket trucks, and other grounds equipment as necessary.
- Maintain fire hydrants, manholes, storm drains, and storm‑water management ponds in compliance with applicable governmental codes.
- Maintain inventory of campus signs and install, repair, or remove signage as requested.
- Install, operate, and maintain the campus underground sprinkler system, ensuring it is drained and winterized.
- Assist in transporting hazardous waste from departmental storage areas to central storage and in monthly disposal of biohazard waste.
- Follow established safety policies and procedures, including using all required personal protective equipment.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Assistant Director and Director.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of one year of experience or demonstrated basic knowledge in the operation and maintenance of groundskeeping equipment.
- Ability to work safely and reliably with minimum supervision.
- Physical requirements:
push, pull, lift and carry up to 50 lbs. throughout an 8‑hour shift; work outdoors in varied weather conditions; work on uneven surfaces; use lifts, ladders, and/or scaffolding at elevated heights. - Valid driver’s license with a good driving record as determined by college policy.
- Minimum of one year of commercial experience or demonstrated basic knowledge in the operation and maintenance of commercial groundskeeping equipment.
- Proven record of attendance and reliability.
- Proficient oral, written, and electronic communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to professionally assist and interact with culturally diverse students, faculty, staff, and the public.
