School Cleaner
The position shall require the following:
Required criminal history background check, proof of US citizenship or legal resident alien status, and proof of acceptable Mantoux test results. Ability to perform physical tasks (i.e., sitting, talking, walking, bending, crouching, crawling, leaning, standing, balancing, climbing, reaching, pushing, pulling, etc) with dexterity and strength over extended periods of time in all types of environments and climates. Ability to perform tasks to completion while handling frequent interruptions.
Ability to anticipate needs, organize work, materials, and equipment, and to respond calmly and effectively to emergency/crisis situations. Ability to use fire safety equipment (i.e., fire extinguishers) appropriately. Ability to effectively think, read, reason, communicate, compute, problem solve, and react. Good vision and physical health, especially that needed to safely operate equipment and perform job functions.
Appointment shall be made by the Board of Education upon the recommendation of the Superintendent.
The salary for the position shall be consistent with the term and conditions as set forth in the contract between the Board of Education and the Mercer County Special Services Support Staff Association!

The school cleaner is responsible for proper cleaning, care, and maintenance of buildings, with skill and efficiency to ensure a clean, healthy, sanitary and safe learning and work environment for students and staff. While maintaining equipment, and related property owned or operated by the Board of Education and as outlined in the Essential Job Functions section.
Hours and days worked will be based on district needs and can be revised on an as-needed basis.
Brooms, mops, vacuums, floor and carpet cleaning and maintenance equipment, chemical mixing stations, and all other items associated with the cleaning and maintenance of a school/office building, property, and grounds.
The major functions include cleaning, dusting, sanitizing, and disinfecting as appropriate in all areas of the school/office buildings.
Maintain adequate supplies of all cleaning fluids, paper items, equipment, and products in work area.
A. Classrooms:
Empty trash and recycling containers, clean chalk trays, dust and clean all desktops, countertops, windowsills, picture frames, and other flat surfaces, clean sinks, mop floors and vacuum rugs, set up rooms, empty pencil sharpeners, and ensure that all windows and exterior doors are closed and locked daily.
B. Bathrooms:
Clean and disinfect sinks, urinals, toilets, and stalls, wet mop and sanitize floors and walls, scrub and polish as required. All bathroom supplies (i.e., soap, toilet paper, paper towels, etc) must be replenished daily.
C. Office Areas:
Dust and clean all desktops, countertops, windowsills, picture frames, and other flat surfaces, empty trash and recycling containers, mop floors, vacuum carpets, and clean bathrooms as described.
D. Cafeteria:
Clean and sanitize all tabletops, wet mop floors, and empty trash as necessary throughout the day.
E. Gymnasium:
Clean floors, dust all flat surfaces, and clean under bleachers etc.
F. Shops and Equipment Rooms:
Remove all dust from machines and equipment, ledges, and work benches etc.
G. General areas:
Clean, sanitize, wet mop, vacuum, wax, and buff as needed in all halls, common areas, classrooms, bathrooms, offices etc, and remove gum and other unsightly objects from floors, walls, lockers, display cases, windows, mirrors, etc.
H. Assist in maintaining a clean and attractive building and exercise tact and diplomacy in handling students, staff and visitors entering school buildings or on school grounds.
I. Maintain strict security of school equipment and supplies.
J. Exhibit respect and support for and adherence to the goals, objectives, policies, and procedures approved by the Board of Education.
K. Share in the upholding and enforcing of school rules, regulations, and the policies of the Board of Education.
L. Perform additional duties as specified and/or requested by the Superintendent or his/her designee.
