The Head Evening Custodian supports the Maintenance Department by ensuring district facilities are clean, safe, and well-functioning. This position oversees evening custodial operations, assists with maintenance needs, and helps the district stay ahead of facility and compliance requirements.
Full-time position with pay and benefits commensurate with the collective bargaining agreement.

- Serve as lead contact during evening shifts; ensure custodial tasks meet district standards.
- Schedule/coordinate staff coverage for absences, events, and building use.
- Conduct building inspections and walk-throughs; provide staff training on cleaning techniques and safe equipment use.
- Support summer and deep cleaning projects.
- Order, track, and organize custodial/maintenance supplies (toilet paper, towels, cleaning products, vacuum bags, etc.).
- Maintain inventory to prevent shortages and ensure cost efficiency.
- Perform light maintenance and repair tasks (painting, small plumbing repairs, vacuum breakers, flush valves, urinals, toilets, etc.).
- Conduct preventive maintenance on custodial equipment (vacuums, scrubbers, extractors).
- Operate custodial equipment for routine/upkeep projects (carpet extractors, floor scrubbers, entrance rugs, etc.).
- Support seasonal needs (snow/ice entryways, rug maintenance).
- Assist with HVAC oversight: evening checks, filter changes, temperature adjustments, and reporting issues.
- Maintain compliance with the state’s Filter First Initiative (water filter replacements).
- Complete small facility improvement projects as assigned; maintain the work order system.
- Set up and tear down furniture/equipment for events, meetings, or athletic activities as needed.
- Ensure classrooms, gyms, and common spaces are clean and in good working order.
- Restock cleaning and restroom supplies as necessary.
- Ability to climb ladders and operate a lift.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Ensure safe storage and handling of custodial chemicals.
- Conduct evening security checks (locking doors, closing windows, walkthroughs).
- Perform safety checks on fire extinguishers, exit lights, and other emergency equipment.
- Assist in maintaining compliance with state and federal regulations, including the Filter First Initiative and other required inspections.
- Report maintenance or safety concerns (such as leaks, broken equipment, or security issues) to the maintenance director.
- Follow all district safety protocols, including the use of cleaning chemicals and equipment.
- Assist with event setup/tear-down (tables, chairs, risers, AV equipment).
- Communicate building issues, staff needs, and requests to the Maintenance Director.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Custodial, maintenance, or facilities experience preferred.
- Basic mechanical/plumbing aptitude; ability to operate custodial equipment.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Ability to work evenings/weekends independently.
- Must pass required background checks.
