Summary:
The Custodian I is an entry-level position involving a variety of light to heavy cleaning tasks performed independently in specific areas or as a member of a crew. Under close supervision, incumbents are given detailed instructions in the performance of routine custodial duties. Incumbents perform tasks that are more structured and repetitive than those assigned at Custodian II. At the discretion of the immediate supervisor, incumbents may advance to Custodian II after demonstrating the ability to perform the full journey level duties of Custodian I.
Essential Job Functions:
- Use safety equipment, supplies, and procedures to perform job duties as required; report all fire, sanitary and safety hazards and the need for repairs to the immediate supervisor.
- Perform general, routine custodial duties, to include but not limited to dusting, mopping, vacuuming, cleaning restrooms, and restocking paper and soap supplied to areas including bathrooms, offices, entrances, classrooms, and hallways.
- Perform routine maintenance to custodial equipment and supplies.
- Report needs and concerns to appropriate staff, which may include submitting or recommending work orders and checking supply levels; for positions within residence halls, responsible for reporting concerns related to residents.
- Maintain a clear line of communication with management in deficiencies or defective areas within your assigned work area.
- Periodically review job performance with immediate supervisor.
- Perform all duties assigned by management related to working(s) of Baker College.
Education Requirements:
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
- Possess knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and Google apps and facilities management software.
- Knowledgeable and proficient in computer skills, which allows for the use of computer related technology.
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
- Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers and other employees of the College.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
- Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

Certifications:
- Valid driver''s license required
- This job requires the following physical activities: bending, stooping, kneeling, twisting, reaching, sitting, standing, walking, lifting, finger dexterity, grasping, repetitive motions, talking, hearing and visual activity. Must be able to lift, push, pull, and move a minimum of 50 pounds.
