Janitor
The Janitor will be responsible for maintaining cleanliness and orderliness within County facilities, ensuring a safe and sanitary environment for employees and visitors. Duties include performing cleaning tasks, waste disposal, and minor maintenance work as needed.
Principal Accountabilities- Sweep, mop, and vacuum floors on a regular basis to remove dirt, debris, and stains.
- Empty and clean trash receptacles and dispose of waste materials in accordance with established procedures.
- Clean and sanitize restrooms, including toilets, sinks, mirrors, and fixtures.
- Dust and polish furniture, fixtures, and equipment to maintain a clean and presentable appearance.
- Clean windows, glass surfaces, and doors to ensure they are free from smudges and fingerprints.
- Refill soap dispensers, paper towel holders, and toilet paper dispensers as needed.
- Monitor and replenish cleaning supplies and equipment to ensure availability for daily tasks.
- Follow safety protocols and use cleaning chemicals and equipment properly to prevent accidents and injuries.
- Report any maintenance or repair issues to the appropriate personnel for prompt resolution.
- Collaborates with other janitors and maintenance workers as needed.
- Works well independently and has strong time management skills.
- Assist with setting up and breaking down rooms for meetings, events, and other activities as required.
- Adhere to County policies and procedures regarding cleanliness, hygiene, and safety standards.
- Understanding of cleaning techniques, equipment, and chemicals commonly used in janitorial work.
- Knowledge of safety protocols and procedures for handling cleaning chemicals and equipment.
- Familiarity with basic maintenance and repair tasks related to facilities and equipment.
- Adaptability to work in various environments and adjust to changing priorities and schedules.
- To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Proven experience in janitorial or custodial work preferred.
- Knowledge of cleaning chemicals, supplies, and equipment.
- Ability to follow instructions and work independently with minimal supervision.
There are no supervisory responsibilities in this position.
Physical Requirements /Working EnvironmentPHYSICAL DEMANDS – Capable of bending, stooping, kneeling, and reaching to perform cleaning tasks. Ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds, including trash bags, cleaning supplies, and equipment. Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination to operate cleaning tools and equipment effectively. Stamina and endurance to work in a physically demanding role for extended periods.
WORK ENVIRONMENT – The work environment in this position involves primarily indoors in various settings, including offices, corridors, restrooms, and common areas. Exposure to cleaning chemicals and solutions, requiring adherence to safety protocols and use of personal protective equipment. May work in environments with varying temperatures, humidity levels, and noise levels. Interaction with staff, visitors, and customers, requiring professional conduct and communication skills.
Flexibility to work during non-traditional hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, to accommodate cleaning schedules and special events. To ensure safety, the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is mandatory, including safety glasses, gloves, and hearing protection.
Travel requirements will vary with the assignment. All travel is between buildings within Troy, MO.
