GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES

As Senior Mechanic, directs, schedules, guides, assists and instructs Motor Equipment Repairmen in the repair and maintenance of automotive equipment, road equipment and machinery and other types of motor-driven and mechanical equipment under the supervision of the Garage Foreman.

At times performs the duties of Motor Equipment Repairman.

Must work in all kinds of weather.

Keep inventory as needed.

Be available for emergency response in absence on Garage Foreman.

Misc. duties as needed for department.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY

Considerable knowledge of the mechanisms of automotive and highway equipment and standard methods of making repairs and adjustments.

Considerable ability to use and care for the tools of the trade, bench and testing equipment, lathes and drill presses.

Considerable ability to instruct and train other employees under his/her supervision.

Ability to follow and interpret complex oral and written instructions.

Considerable ability to get along with other employees.

Ability and knowledge of the Fleet maintenance reporting program.

Ability and knowledge of the Fuel Master system including fuel inventory & ordering.

Must have good working knowledge of computers including MS Office Suite systems.

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING

Not less than five (5) years of employment in repair and maintenance of automotive or road building equipment, including at least three (3) years in diesel truck repair, plus one (1) year of experience in a supervisory capacity OR IN LIEU THEREOF an equivalent combination of experience and training. Must possess current valid Connecticut CDL (Commercial Driver’s License).

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

Works under the direct supervision of the Garage Foreman or the General Foreman and other authorized personnel.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED

Supervises garage personnel under the supervision of the Garage Foreman.

PARTS WEIGHTS:
Experience & Training 100%. The weight of the examination will be 100% experience and training. The candidates will be ranked based on their experience and training as it relates to the required experience and training for this position based on the information contained in their employment application, the supplemental questionnaire if applicable and any attachments they provide. This examination will be conducted for the Town of Trumbull by the Trumbull Civil Service Board within the authority of Section 7-413 of the 1959 revision of the State of CT General Statutes.
